Spied: Nissan GT-R beats 911 Turbo around Nurburgring(+spec.sheet/prices-Pg.19)

Pole Position
All cars that run on the Ring to get lap times for marketing purposes are rigged. Don't expect that you can take factory Z06 or 911T and come close to claimed times by their manufacturers no matter how good you know the circuit.

yes that tread looks like the RE070 tread pattern..which bridgestone is making for nissan in a runflat @ 20"
you can see this closeup from the car, clearly says RE070 and "RFT" on the bottom. nissan has been using these tires for some time on the car. i also know that the tires were also fitted on the car when the car was making its rounds on the US tracks... and this is something that can be seen in videos.
as noted elsewhere, japanese buyers have been told the tires will cost $1k/ea. and are one of the key differences between the base trim and black edition. in the US nissan will probably make them standard though, as our cars tend to be better equipped than most japanese equivilents (true for the Z/G/M)

"The Nissan GT-R development team has made another run at the Nürburgring record books this morning--and the Porsche 911 Turbo is no longer its target. Sources intimately familiar with Nissan's latest test sessions inform us that the group is now gunning to beat the Porsche Carrera GT--a remarkably lofty goal considering that that Walter Röhrl reportedly piloted a Carrera GT around the 'Ring in 7 minutes 28 seconds. Another Carrera GT, driven by Horst von Saurma, managed a lap time of 7:32.
Our sources tell us that, thus far, the Nissan has fallen short of the Carrera GT's record-time, but not by much. Our mole tells us that some wet sections of the track slowed them down, and that with optimum track conditions, some heroic driving could still reel in the Porsche Supercar. Nissan reps would not divulge any specific lap times, but they hinted that something under 7:35 may have been achieved. Regardless, it's clear that Nissan's goal of overtaking the 911 Turbo has been achieved in a big way.
Stopwatch drama aside, Nissan also gave us some new eye-candy by removing most of the camouflage that has been a staple of GT-R sightings for more than a year now. Although not in showroom shape, the latest GT-R test cars give us our clearest look yet at the prototype's front bumper and headlights, and the GT-R badge is now prominently displayed in the grille-opening, and on the trunk lid. We also managed a pretty revealing interior shot as one GT-R prepared to launch. The rear vinyl camouflage has also been removed, and now only flat-black paint remains to obscure the GT-R's true styling. This is as close as we're likely to get to an undisguised car until the car's Tokyo Show debut.
In their most recent 'Ring runs, Nissan rented the track early Monday morning, and had three GT-R prototypes--spaced one-minute apart--all taking their best shots. One of the GT-Rs was reportedly driven by Horst von Saurma--the same 'Ring specialist that drove the Carrera GT to a 7:32 lap time. Another driver was said to be a Japanese driver named Shimizu--possibly well-known racer Kazuo Shimizu. The third GT-R pilot went un-named.
Nissan will likely continue their assault on the Nürburgring--and on the Porsche legacy--for the rest of this week. If the GT-R manages to do the seemingly impossible and unseat the Carrera GT, we'll let you know."

2012
Nissan’s R35 GT-R is set to sing its final swansong, with production of the 2012 JDM model supposedly set to wrap up a stellar 6 year period, marked by accolades from all over the globe as the car to beat, a world class all round speed king of track and street and the performance buy of the decade. But Nissan isn’t quite done yet and we have some inside news as to what’s going on…
Japanese publication, Best Car Magazine, released some information recently that gives an indication as to what is coming for the next version of the GT-R but there is much to read between the lines.
Among the biggest changes reported, there will be another power increase from factory, with the GT-R set to gain another 30ps ( 30+hp ) over the Spec V model, taking power levels from ~530hp to ~560hp in total.
1 of the other bigger things we have gathered from our sources is that there is going to be a Spec “R” version of the final GT-R that will serve to succeed the Spec V in the showroom and on the circuit.
The mega-quake that rocked all of us here in Japan ultimately disrupted preparations for a Nurburgring test in Germany for the GT-R, with Best Car claiming that Nissan were scheduled to run the final evolution of the model there in April but our sources close to Nissan inform us they had the test slated for the end of May. Equally as interesting is Best Car’s claim that the testing for the car will resume in June but as of this moment, we have been told the testing will resume in Autumn during either September or October. No final dates have been announced.
Among the other significant changes include a slight reduction of 30 ~ 40 kilograms in overall weight plus the addition of a gold engine cover to replace the current red version adorning the Spec V. No doubt the Spec R is going to be the ultimate road going GT-R straight from factory.
Fuel economy is also expected to improve slightly, but if that’s your main concern then the GT-R is probably not the car for you.
We will have updates for you as we receive them.
