The S2000 was $35k when new in its last year, not exactly affordable, or at least not a direct competitor to the sub-$25k segment. But if you're gonna talk about used cars, might as well include the older 911s and such.

The Mazda RX-8 is about 3000 lbs. The Porsche Cayman is under 3000 lbs. And they're both for currently for sale.

The RX-8's weight starts at 3,065lbs, not exactly "under" 3,000lbs. The Cayman's pricing starts at $52k, not exactly "affordable".

It's all relative. The RX-8 is pumping out 232hp, 35 more hp than the FR-S. If you look at lbs/hp that is 13.2 for the RX-8 vs. 13.5 for the FR-S. To the wealthy man $52K is "affordable."

Why include hp in the equation? You're simply missing the point of the FT-86. The point about the FT-86 is its tossability, not straight line speeds. The heavier the car the less tossable it'll be. If you want hp just get a Mustang or Genesis. In many ways the RX-8 is the FT-86's most direct competitor, both being affordable small 2+2 RWD coupes, but with a ~300lbs advantage the FT-86 is bound to be more fun in the twisties while the RX-8 will most likely out-accelerate the FT-86 in the straight line. The bottom line is that the FT-86 will be the most fun for the buck among cars that can be practical enough to be one's only car.
To the wealthy man $52K is "affordable."
And to a poor man $25k is too expensive, so what's your point?

The average car selling price in the US is $28,400, so no, $52k is NOT affordable to the average Americans.

what about torque? :-).

If they somehow manage base version to be 25k (not stripped one), it will be best deal in a long time... spend 5k extra on turbo and you have crazy street monster... add another 5k into suspension and brakes, and sky is the limit... all +20k less than similar and a lot slower Cayman.
