I honestly don't think people read about the effort and engineering into the IS F, LFA, new GS and now this.....

It seems that marketing wanted a fast car so they could sell it and Mr. Toyoda and the team said HELL NO, it is not that type of car.

Mr. Toyoda and Mr. Naruse were directly involved....telling them its a POS and TRY HARDER....

When Naruse passed, they drove by the spot at the Ring to keep his spirit alive in the car.

They were 100% feel and low weight and limited computer electronics

They want it pure, so no Turbo, no AWD, nothing to get in the way of the experience

This has no direct competitors. Everything else is much larger, more powerful with more electric gadets and much heavier. A Camaro weighs 1000 lbs more!

This is for the guy that runs SCCA....what a brilliant car it seems

This car reminds me of the last generation Supra...which is a good thing. I can't wait to see this car on the road.

No way are they going to make 1000 a year, they are most likely looking to sell 1000 a month per brand in just the US

So let's recap, the cynics and critics so far have complained about:

- how this isn't a good replacement for a modified MR-2
- wheel-gap
- styling not 100% matching concept

You know Toyota has something special on their hands when that's all that cynics and critics are complaining about .

Stunning job by Toyota on this car. It's being compared to a Cayman by European journalists!!! Mind-blowing curb weight and center-of-gravity. Fuel economy should be great as well. It doesn't look amazing in stock form, but no other cars in the class look amazing in stock form. With a simple drop and wheels this will look awesome. Also the stock car does not look tacky, gaudy or overdone.

Most importantly, this is a pure sports car, one that's affordable, and will have huge aftermarket potential. This is going to sell extremely well.

Be afraid Hyundai, be very afraid (and other competitors). The sleeping dragon is now fully awake.

that was for subaru - they quoted 3000 per year... of course, Subaru as a brand sells 10x less cars than TMC.

Hey complain about your clocks, wheel-gap and seat belt colors.... This is a winner

i see now on ft86club someone is reporting 1k units, handbuilt and LFA gear box.
There is no chance this will only get 1k units, maybe per month, for Japan only :-).

83 cars / month is just not fitting for production vehicle. And it doesnt have LFA but it has IS-F transmission, which are very different beasts - we would have known already if it was LFA's robotized manual, as everyone would have mentioned it in their first drives.

a lot of that is probably being lost in translation, as usual when things are happening in Japan.

Don't believe all of the bull**** that you read on FT86Club. Just about everyone on that forum runs their mouth (or keyboard) thinks they know all of the details of the car, when in fact they don't know a damn thing. Case in point:

Each car i can confirm will be hand made.

The automatic gearbox is based on the LF-A gearbox which means it will be a very good box. I spoke to people who have driven both the manual and the automatic and tell me that its hard to choose between the two. But that they are both very very good.

1000 a year - and that didn't raise any red flags for you?! Anyways...

O it did. But hearing it from the guy that Won the Facebook FT86 Contest. It seem rather legit.
