I don't know about this.

The new Corolla does not have the same ideology as Corollas from 30 years ago.

It would be best to separate the two. The new Corolla is an international-appealing family sedan (it's the best selling sedan in the world).

The FT-86 should create a new image, rather than dragging the Corolla namesake...

What I love about the design is the very short overhangs. Overhangs ftl.

The Corolla is the best selling nameplate (not sedan) in the world. To be fair, the Corolla was offered in many variations other than a sedan. It was also offered as a wagon, 2 door coupe and 3 door hatchback variations.

The AE86 was the chassis code for the 1984-86 Corolla hatch/coupe. During it's 5th generation, Corolla was both a FWD sedan and a RWD hatchback & liftback. Sure it would probably be good to separate the Corolla and the FT-86 to create their own identities, but if Toyota is looking to keep the 41 year old Corolla heritage alive (to capitalize on the name and sales numbers) I wouldn't be too surprised if the Corolla nameplate somehow makes it on this car. Think Corolla Tercel or Corolla Matrix.

Dimension comparison:

FT-86:

Length: 163.7 inches
Width: 69.3 inches
Height: 49.6 inches
Wheelbase: 101 inches

Genesis coupe:

Length: 182.3 inches
Width: 73.4 inches
Height: 54.5 inches
Wheelbase: 111 inches

So this car will be almost as wide as the Genesis, MUCH shorter, and lower. it will also have shorter overhangs. In person it should look more aggressive than the Genesis coupe and sportier. That height if kept on the production model is amazingly low!

Love those new pics! The rear definitely has some FT-HS styling cues, just like the front. Also love the fact that it has a diffuser.

Overall, this car looks like it means business. Also no happy/smiling front end like the Genesis, but a proper mean, aggressive front end.

THANK YOU Toyota for coming up with a great-looking, small, light RWD car that will also be very affordable. This could very well be my next car ! Please keep the car AS IS for production!

This looks futuristic, sporty, and aggressive without looking goofy. Hyundai needs to take notes.

Love that interior as well, check out the 1980's handbrake and stick shift .

The production LF-A should have roughly that amount of suspension travel, what makes you say this won't ?

With aftermarket rims, this car I must say *blows away* the Genesis coupe in looks.

I have a good feeling the exterior is very close to production, as likely Akio Toyoda wants a lot of emotional reaction to the production car.

That GT5 video shows the engine as having a "C-4S" label on it. Can anyone say direct injection on a Subaru boxer engine ?

It says ADVICS

They are a Japanese company (that has presence in Japan and overseas) that specializes in automotive braking systems, parts and components.

Anyways, I hope that keep the tradition of what the AE86 was best known for:

I hope this thing is up for some mountain racing and touge drifting (just like what its predecessor was best known for)

Anyways more details about this car:

Ultimately, I think Toyota is gonna keep the name.

Like you said, its heritage is there.

For America, people need to realize that the Corolla name doesn't have to be the bland sedan that we all know. It can be a lot more than that...

I'm 99% sure this will not be called a Corolla, for various reasons. From what I understand this car will be branded as a Scion.
