Considering a much heavier 300hp V-6 Camaro gets 29 or 30 MPG highway, yeah its not great. The 34 MPG rating though is fantastic for the automatic only 3 MPG less than a 1.5 liter hybrid CR-Z.
Also didn't realize Scion offers 2 year/25k maintenance which helps add more value to the car.
Overall I hope this flies off shelves, all the triplets.

6MT
1st gear - 3.626
2nd gear - 2.188
3rd gear - 1.541
4th gear - 1.213
5th gear - 1.000
6th gear - 0.767
Reverse - 3.437
Final gear ratio - 3.727 (cheaper model) / 4.100 (upper trim)
6AT
1st gear - 3.538
2nd gear - 2.060
3rd gear - 1.404
4th gear - 1.000
5th gear - 0.713
6th gear - 0.582
Reverse - 3.168
Final gear ratio - 4.100
It is all in the gearing, manual is meant for the track and hence short gears that should work well there... AT is for regular people.

Where are you guys getting the 35 mpg number? Yesterday Autoblog reported 22/30 for the manual model and 25/34 for the automatic. If it does get 35, then that is more than enough.

Scion has good equipment, everything you need. $25k is high because everyone talked about it as $20k car for a while. When you compare it to Miata, it is actually cheaper and faster.

That pricing is incorrect. I just got the email from SCION now.
It is $24,930 MSRP for the 6M. Which makes the Auto around $26k. Quite a bit higher than i expected....

FWIW - I tried to bypass the "delivery fees" one time since I live by the now defunct NUMMI plant. No way to circumvent it and so i think it's stupid to cite a "base" price without it..
