Ever since I have been driving my FR-S. I have been wondering what if Toyota-Subaru made a Boxer-6 engine turning out like 300 hp to compete against Porsche or even Lotus. Seeing this little Boxer-4 turns our 197 hp and it is a 2.0L. One could only dream. At least they will have a supercharger coming out, hopefully going to boost the hp to 250-300.

Buyers remorse? Or just wishful thinking?

The price you pay for being an early adopter.

2013 Scion FR-S, Twin Ring Motegi Coming to Gran Turismo 5 This Week
More video game news, but this time of a more serious nature. Sometime tomorrow you'll be able to boot up your PS3 and download Twin Ring Motegi for Gran Turismo 5. That'll cost you $5.

However, it won't cost you anything at all to download a Scion FR-S to go with the Toyota 86 you already have in your garage.

2013 Scion FR-S vs. 2011 Scion tC Track Tested
Inside Line tests hundreds of vehicles a year, but not every vehicle gets a full write-up. The numbers still tell a story, though, so we present "IL Track Tested." It's a quick rundown of all the data we collected at the track, along with comments direct from the test drivers. Enjoy.

Part of the appeal of the 2013 Scion FR-S -- and its twin, the Subaru BRZ -- is that it is such a departure from what we're used to from Scion (and Subaru). After all, before the FR-S, the most exciting, dynamic, stylish car and the closest thing Scion had to a driver's car was the Scion tC, which we last tested as a 2011 model.

The 2011 Scion tC had 180 horsepower routed to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Our long-term 2013 Scion FR-S makes 200 hp and pushes it to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual.

Follow the jump to see how this family rivalry turns out on the track.

Handling
Slalom (mph): 67.5 ( 65.2 w/TC on)
Skid Pad Lateral acceleration (g): 0.89 ( 0.88 w/TC on )

Db @ Idle: 41.6
Db @ Full Throttle: 80.5
Db @ 70 mph Cruise: 66.5

Acceleration: I tried Jacquot's "big revs, massive wheelspin" technique and while it does work to some extent, such excessive wheelspin had the shift light popping on while still spinning the tires, which caused the car to bog slightly after shifting to 2nd. So 5,000-rpm drop-clutch technique with slightly less wheelspin (but still a lot) proved quickest. Shifter is excellent, very precise, easy to jam home with authority.

Braking: Very firm pedal with nice, short travel. The FR-S stays supremely planted and secure during panic stops, and the pedal remained consistent throughout. First stop was shortest at 114 feet. Fourth stop (out of six) was longest at 118 feet.

Handling:

Skid pad: This is a real throttle-steering car, and it's easy to get too much oversteer which would hurt the skid pad number. But, with small, careful throttle changes (not easy, because throttle is a bit abrupt) you can control the car's angle very nicely.

Slalom: This is a very twitchy, tail-happy car in the quick transitions of the slalom, at least with VSC turned fully off. Planted it's not. Which just goes to show that what works fantastically on a mountain road does not necessarily equate to an easy time in the slalom. The VSC Sport setting and VSC fully on seemed very close in terms of intervention. The Sport setting should allow more freedom. And when it freaks out, it stabs the brakes very aggressively.

Skid Pad Lateral acceleration (g): 0.82 (0.82 stability control on)

Db @ Idle: 41.8
Db @ Full Throttle: 74.8
Db @ 70 mph Cruise: 70.6

Acceleration Comments: Traction control can be avoided with heavy clutch abuse on the launch, but it kills the 1-2 shift. With trac off, the best run "hazed" the tires and allowed (almost) a 1-2 chirp. Long travel on clutch pedal before bite, and medium-length shift throws. Not horrible, but not a Civic either.

Braking Comments: Reasonably flat, always straight, minimal fade. In other words, a textbook "average" performance.

Handling Comments:

Skid pad: With ESC off, there's a healthy dose of understeer. With ESC on, I can hear/feel the brake being applied, but it didn't help with the ultimate result. Steering is vaguely artificially made heavier at this speed.

Slalom: With ESC off, the 6MT tC wasn't as threatening to break the rears as loose as the 6A -- maybe I was prepared this time, but it felt more predictable nonetheless. I used the same tiptoe in and whack the throttle for the exit. With ESC on, it dabed a brake at each cone, limiting my ability to go much faster.

AKA Toyota 86 vs. Toyota Zelas.

Toyota 86 Twincharged Sports FR Concept with 315HP to Race at Goodwood Hillclimb
The upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed (June 28 - July 1, 2012) is shaping up to be an extremely interesting event for gearheads and motor racing enthusiasts alike.
Today, Toyota confirmed the participation of the all-new GRMN Sports FR Concept based on the 86 (a sister model to the Scion FR-S) at the famous Goodwood hillclimb.

The track concept was built by Toyota's motorsports partner Gazoo Racing, which boosted the standard model's 2.0-liter flat-four boxer with the addition of both a turbo- and supercharger that lift output from 200hp to 315hp (320PS) and peak torque from 205Nm (151 lb-ft) to 421Nm (310.5 lb-ft).

A modified six-speed manual gearbox drives the rear wheels while other changes include a dedicated GRMN-tuned suspension that brings the car closer to the ground, larger brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels and a unique sports body kit.

The working concept's interior is equipped with a roll cage, bucket seats and four-point racing harnesses, while the center console sees the addition of turbo boost, water and oil temperature gauges.

The GRMN Sports FR Concept won't be alone at the Goodwood festival as the Toyota Group’s official line-up of cars running on the hillclimb will include a further 86 kitted out by TRD, the latest GRMN supercharged iQ and a road-going version of the Lexus LFA supercar.

Toyota will also display several racing and production models from the past and present such as TS030 HYBRID sports car, the classic 2000GT, 2012-specification Dynojet Racing Toyota Avensis touring car, the Celica ST185 and ST 205 GT-Four, the WRC Corolla, and a rare TE27 Corolla Levin from the 1970s.

Hopefully it does happen one day, that Toyota-Subaru do come out with a 2.0L Boxer-6 engine turning out around 300 hp.

I am happy anyways with the 200 hp, it is still a fun car

I posted about it a few pages ago....hope it comes to market.

From my understanding there is a gentlemen's agreement with Toyota/Subie that if one brand adds more power, the other brand must too.

This is what I was told from my Toyco regional rep as well: non-noncompetitive agreement in terms of hp. Of course, this doesn't prevent either company from releasing aftermarket mods, but prohibits them from selling it as a model itself.

Not these new pics. It's a one-off special made by Gazoo Racing and it's not coming to market.

Toyota did this in the past with the Ultimate Celica Concept that had a 500 horsepower 3S-GTE engine and a custom built AWD drivetrain.

Hotter GT 86 confirmed for UK
Styling tweaks, a sports exhaust and bigger brakes for 2013 coupé, but only a minor power increase

A more focused version of the Toyota GT 86 will be offered in the UK from early next year, after the car’s public debut at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Toyota GT 86 TRD — seen here in this exclusive set of images — will represent the first time that Toyota GB has officially offered Toyota Racing Development upgrades on a UK model. The car will be sold through flagship Toyota dealerships, and is designed to showcase the potential of TRD in upgrading Toyota products.

The full TRD package is likely to push the cost of the range-topping GT 86 to around £40,000, and the special model is likely to be limited
to just 86 units.

The TRD 86 was previewed at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year, but the Goodwood car is representative of the model that will reach the UK in 2013.

The changes over a standard GT 86 include new wheels and tyres, bigger brakes, a new exhaust and a bodykit.

However, the suspension remains unchanged and the 2.0-litre engine is largely untouched over the standard car’s. No turbocharger or supercharger has been fitted, with additions restricted to new oil and air filters. A small power upgrade, of around 10bhp over the regular car’s 197bhp, has been achieved by fitting the new sports exhaust.

My FR-S June 1st. Then after a wreck on June 27th.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10081
Guy ran a Red light (speeding) long story short and i locked up my brakes from going around 15 mph... clipped the very front of my car. All cosmetics mostly. Front bumper, right light need replaced completely. His car got T-boned by me he blew out 3 tires back right rim bent in bad where i clipped him.

But...It could have been way worse if i wouldnt have braked, as in him actually hitting me and putting me in the hospital. Im Very Thankful.

Another FR-S. another accident...

Hotter GT 86 confirmed for UK

As suspected, Autocar is full of crap :-)

Standing for Toyota Racing Development, it comes with black 18-inch alloy wheels and performance tyres, larger brakes and a revised exhaust system, which has released an extra 10bhp from the 2.0-litre boxer engine.

It’s been visually beefed up, too. The TRD wears new front and rear bumpers with a new rear valance. Flared wheelarches, side skirts and a bootlid spoiler add some aggression to the quite soft aesthetic of the standard car.

A short-throw shifter for the manual gearbox completes the changes.

The GT86 TRD is limited to 86 examples. It won’t be available to customers til next year, but don’t worry if the collectors and speculators beat you to the order books, as the upgrades will be available on the standard GT86 through Toyota Racing Development dealers.

What’s more, the GT86 TRD isn’t likely to significantly inflate the standard car’s bargain £24,995 list price. The full cost has yet to be confirmed but Toyota has stated it will not cost the £40,000 as reported across the Internet. A price of around £27-30,000 is more likely.

Jesse - that's a very interesting idea. There seems to be space for fitting in an H6 and would be much more simple than an FI model. I just hope it doesn't turn out like the SVX from yesteryear! :X

A friend purchased an auto FRS yesterday. Got to drive around with it today....all I can say is was WOW!!! Car is on rails, my other friend put down a deposit on a red FRS 6spd as well today. Can't wait to test it!

I'm still partial to the BRZ because of the options, dealers are crazy around here tho...5-6k mark ups, pretty much 370z territory.
