The FT-86 derivative I'd love to see is a Lexus-branded 2-seat roadster (soft top or retractable hardtop, I don't care) with the Subaru flat 6 that would do battle with the Audi TT, Mercedes SLK and BMW Z4, as expressed here: http://my.is/forums/f41/what-should-...t-deux-365580/

^that would be a great idea. I hope they do something like that! I have been saying it for years.

Haha epic win indeed.

@anyways

Toyota said they were aiming for 200 hp. Wow that's gonna be a challenge (esp. if they won't use any form of force induction here and just keep it N.A.)

P.S.
Anyways a bit of trivia

For those familiar with second stage, you would know that Takumi couldn't beat Wataru (and his AE86 LEVIN supercharged vehicle) when he was pushing the engine of his car too much.

It was only after the totalled engine got replaced with a racing version of the 4A-GE engine (20 valve) which was capable of revving beyond 10,000 rpm.

It was only then that he was able to beat Wataru in his home course at Shomaru mountain pass.

I'd really prefer such a car to be a "Lexus MR2" persay, but yeah... I guess this wouldn't be so bad. Would Toyota really put a Subaru engine in a Lexus model though?

Anyways, we'll see. If there are some new developments in engine technology and components and whatnot, then it looks like 200 hp is plausible (using stock tuning; not aftermarket).

P.S.
An initial-D related question:

I can't seem to recall but what was the reason for Takumi being able to beat Nakazato? If I remember (from what Ryosuke Takahasi was saying), it mentioned that the R32 Skyline of Nakazato was 4WD which outweighs the acceleration of the AE86 (especially on straights which makes up majority of Myogi, the place where they raced).

So how did the 86 beat the R32 on a mountain pass dominated by straightways?

It is a normally aspirated engine.

JDM 2.0 Turbos make "276" hp.

The current 2-liter naturally aspirated/port injection Subaru flat 4 is rated at 150 PS (148 hp). Over at Lexus, the port injection-only 2GR-FE 3.5-liter V6 is rated at 272 hp in the ES 350 and 275 hp in the RX 350. Add direct injection for the 2GR-FSE 3.5-liter V6 in the IS 350 and GS 350 and the horsepower jumps by 27, 31 or even 34, to 306 and 303, respectively.

It's not unheard of for naturally aspirated engines to put out 100hp per liter, and Toyota itself, with Yamaha's help, has done it with the 2ZZ-GE 1.8-liter 4 from the final Toyota Celica GTS and the Lotus Elise.
