People need to separate internet hype from what the manufacturer has said or not said. I do believe Toyota said it will be ready by 2013 or so. With that said not sure why anyone would believe otherwise.

They are showing how they fine tune the concepts. The GTR was shown with 2 different concepts before it was produced. So was the 350Z. Acura has shown 3 NSX concepts that never came to production.

Its a concept, it builds excitement and is an integral part of a car show.

what other cars did Toyota/Lexus did this with? They only did it with exciting sports cars - LFA and FT-S. For everything else, we usually dont get a glimpse before production car is ready for sales.

not 2013... Toyota Manufacturing Europe said today that FT-S will go on sale during 2012.

Not in love with it, but i like it. I need to see interior shots, prices and specs to really decide if this is a better buy than a nissan Z or scooby wrx

I think it definitely has some LFA design cues particularly the headlights and lower bumper area which is a good thing.

Car needs that nose and the original FT-86 rear. Perfection.

@Lexusman - the design influence is probably because they are based on more Japanese character themes (Samurai helmet).

With those specifications and the more upscale look, has Toyota changed target from the compact sports coupe segmant to now more of a full fledge Z competitor? This goes against the low weight, low price target of the FT86 doesn't it?

Wow, I can live with this new concept. It looks pretty vicious
the side profile is hideous though with the raised wheel arches (a la mazda)

this side profile is also bad, looks like a z

It has Z4 proportions. I think this latest iteration looks dumpy. The grinning fender flares and sagging character lines look silly and soft. I hope this isn't it.

The beginning part of that teaser gave me hints of a car that could've been a Maserati with those curves

that's exactly what I thought. looks limp. the middle looks too round, and it doesn't have any shoulders around the rear fender

Yeah, good thing it's a concept and it's there to gauge customer reactions. I would like it if it were a combination of Concept 1 and 2.

There you have it. All you people complaining Toyota is showing too many concepts, Toyota has confirmed the production model will debut at the Tokyo auto show this fall.
