I'm not a sports car lover, but this looks very good. I like the direction they took with the styling. It's sporty, modern, and aero- all in one. There's shades of the Z and G coupe in there, but it works well. Interesting though, the Camry debuted those foglight cutouts first.

C&D Subaru on AS1:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2070

target: 2800lbs, target price 28k.

Subaru denies Toyota did any engineering work and claims Toyota only did design and only based on specs from Subaru. I wonder why all the complaints from Subaru.

I mean they are using Toyota injection system, Toyota transmission, Toyota driveshaft is used, etc. Head engineer for the product is from Toyota. Subaru guy that talks about AS1 is not head engineer for AS1 - he is only but project manager for all of Subaru brand. We also know it extensivly tested in Numburing by Toyota staff, in Toyota vehicles, chasing Toyota race cars, in Toyota garage, having Toyota plates. Yet this guy says that all of the testing was done only by Subaru and that toyota only ocassionally checked on them.

For 25k I would expect the interior to be a little more flashy and cockpit like for a 2 door sports car. There seems to be some cheapness there but maybe there targeting the younger crowd. The Genesis coupe looks better interior wise than this.. Just my opinion..

I have to agree with you on this. I don't mind the current interior, but it could be flashier like you said.

It's a drivers car... focused, minimalist. Lotus does worse for twice the price.

FWIW, I think it's gorgeous for a 25k car.

The steering wheel looks MUCH better in that photo, as does the red stitching.

A very high quality interior for the price indeed, but it's unfair to compare Lotus to this because Lotus is all about minimalism and is quite a bit lighter while the FT-86 still trades off quite a bit of weight savings for creature comfort and amenities.

well lotus is all about minimalism because thats only thing they know to do well :-).

main thing with FT-S was keeping the price in check, if they could have used more aluminium, then weight would be probably more like old Celica GTS.

well of course, it just needs a bit of imagination if you are looking at phone camera pics of catalogue :-).

and let it be said, it is toyota interior too.... toyota clues everywhere.

did you notice airbag part of the steering wheel also covered in stitched leather? well at least it looks stiched, hard to see the materials... interior is much improved and more flashy than any toyota sold currently.

p.s. those door handles? same as in my 2004 MR-S. :-)

The more I look at the taillights, the more I think it looks like last-gen Z4 ones. Hmm...

I agree.
I didn't want to focus on that b/c everything else looks pretty good. There are cues of LFA dna here and there.

And the foglights, just like the new Camry, which, I don't like. Why can't they stick with the concept design more? Anyway, mostlikely I am getting this for my fun car.
