Shoulda stayed with the BMW I6. BMW is renowned for their I6's.

mavericck, not very much compared to the reputation the 2jz garners. One would have to be living in a dream world or under a rock if they think a BMW I6 of any flavor is more well known for performance capabilities than the JZ-series of engines.

Japanese engine + Japanese car. German engine + German car, with very few exceptions.

Says who?

Man the engine-swap ***** are out in full force in this thread! You guys act like a BMW is sacred or something. Most of the old ones I've seen are garbage anyways, why not toss a good motor in there and make it run halfway decent?

Better engine into a car that handles better than a stock Lexus/Toyota. Even though BMW's I6 is pretty legendary, there really isn't an aftermarket for them and Dinan charges too much for their EEPROMs. The M series motors need special oil and meticulous maintenance.

Do you have any idea how many engine awards BMW has garnered with its I6's? I've seen BMW I6's making in excess of 2000hp.

here is one that makes 1000hp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Teq2Z...elated&search=

Here's a 1442 hp one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOsgNSzOyKk

Here's one racing a Supra with the JZ engine.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aimKljL1zc

Thats really nice. How much money is it to get 500whp out of a BMW I6? What about 700whp? Please show me the many cheap turbokits that are available for newer BMW I6s. Don't forget to quote the prices of all of those plug and play standalone ECUs that are available for it too

BMW I6s making in excess of 2000hp? You neglect to mention the size of them (probably over 4 liters) and you're missing that the fastest drag imports run JZ motors. If the BMW I6 was so "legendary" as you claim, you'd think it would be used more often.

How much money goes into a 1000hp Supra? In most cases over $150,000. I'm talking about the older, legendary S50/S52 (E36, E34) series motors making tremendous horsepower.

As for the really high hp motors, they are the 3.0 liter I6s out of the E36 and the 3.6 liter out of the E34. As for the fastest drag imports, it depends on who you talk to and where you are from. In California and to a large extent people tend to think only Japanese imports can be made fast drag cars. In Europe the E36 M3 is known as the German Supra, especially in Scandinavia, and Poland. It is extremely widely used in Washington, the east coast and much more so in Europe. It just isn't as well known on the Japanese dominated west coast of Cali which obssesed with the Fast and the Furious style of Japanese imports.

Here are a few more videos of some S50/S52 motors that would be good match for the 2JZ, if not beat it:
