well problem isnt that it is overpriced
it is that people just dont associate it with ultra uber luxury because it looks too similar on the exterior to S class

I think they should keep Maybach and MB separate. The tiered ownership gives it more meaning to have a Maybach rather than MB. People buy them for a reason.

I think a lot of people will see a Maybach as not much above a S-class but costing 2x as much. What I mean is all (or most) feautres you could get on a S-class.

I suppose some people don't care if it's $200K or $400K or $600K but most people do care even wealth people.

Its a classic case of "they are doing it, we must do it" that goes wrong.

Styling is borderline bland and its ungainly. Look how long this looks.


Then they say you can buy a 57 if you want a sportier, 6000lbs car, lol


Interior though, trumps all the competition b/c its truly modern with tech.

The New S-Class 550 has styling elements of the Maybach. S-Class 550 looks better too.

That is true though. It is a controversial issue I guess. That is always the tough thing about business, you can please one customer but not the other

Although the interior is definitely classy, I would consider getting one

One thing I am quite shocked, too see a couple Maybach's here in Montreal. Must have seen three of them so far. Not sure if it was the same one, anything possible. One thing I like about it. It is the interior (rear compartment), I wish the LS 460 L / LS 600h L were slightly longer, so they could have two recliners in the back. Similar to the Maybach.

Despite Australia’s record-breaking 1 million-car sales this year, Maybach managed to snag exactly zero buyers. To put this in perspective, with a population of approximately 21 million, 1 million cars sold means nearly one in 20, or roughly five percent of Australians bought a car this year alone. It’s probably true that fewer than 1 in 20 Australians could theoretically afford a Maybach, but with not a single car sold, one has to wonder about the viability of the brand - and not just in Australia.

And it’s not like the million cars sold were all budget-loving economy cars, either. Luxury marques saw rises across the board, from Ferrari’s 43.6 percent increase in sales to Bentley’s 17.6%, expensive cars sold well in Australia this year. Rolls-Royce even managed 17 sales, an increase of 5 over 2006. In fact, Rolls-Royce cars are in such great demand that the factory simply can’t keep up with the demand. So what’s wrong with Maybach?

It could be the excessively gaudy looks - although those who’ve seen the tricked-out tuner Rolls-Royces and Bentleys being offered might disagree - or it could be the staggeringly high price, although again, expensive cars sold wonderfully this year, especially in Australia. So what’s keeping Maybach back? Maybe it’s the fact that the Maybach line is based entirely off of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class - an already stellar vehicle in it’s own right, but hardly in need of a third of a million dollars in chrome, chrome-colored accessories and interior modification. Whatever the reason for the dismal sales, we’re going to go ahead and start preparing our eulogy now.

Mercedes should just have a special option for the S-Class if they want a Maybach interior of some sort.

I heard Maybach was created by MB for Hitler. Correct me if I'm wrong on that - but I'd never own, drive, sit in, take pictures of, nor want to be associated to a name brand with such terrible history attached to it.

If it's true, I'm glad it's going away.

Just my 2 cents.

After years of intense struggling, the ultra-exclusive Maybach luxury brand which belongs to Daimler AG concern has almost got to an end. With just 146 units sold last year and apparently no plan to replace the aging Maybach, the luxury division of Mercedes is dying slowly. Listening to Dieter Zetsche, Daimler’s affable CEO looks like neither the new variant, the Landaulet will not budge the needle on sales.

Although the Maybach has proven that it can compete with cars like Rolls Royce, Maybach did not have the desired success. According to Zetsche, Daimler has not decided yet but a decision will certainly be taken: the brand will be saved or...let once again sink into obscurity?


Maybach was founded in 1921 by Karl Maybach who began production of luxurious and technically perfect motor cars at Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance. His flagship was the powerful twelve-cylinder model, the Maybach Zeppelin DS 8, the biggest German luxury car of the 1930s. Maybach body shells were manufactured by renowned German specialists, based on individual customer requirements. Hence, every Maybach was a unique creation, reflecting the individual style of its owner; no two cars were alike.
