Ive been doing research on insurance for a possible LS400 in my near future. Using progressive, i got a sense that insuring a lexus is extremely expensive. Here are some of the quotes i got, keep in mind i have many speeding tickets and am under 25. All these prices are for recommended package, with 100k coverage on accidents and other things like rental, hospital, etc.
93 Lexus ls400- $379 a month
98 Lexus ls400- $512 a month
compared to other cars
2002 Acura TL Type S- $330 a month
2004 Nissan Altima SE- $303 a month
why on gods earth would a 1993 lexus have higher insurance premiums than a 3 year old nissan? are my results typical? im afriad i might have to cheap out on insurance for my lexus. I figure if the cars only worth 10k than why do i need 100k coverage. So for basic packages, with only 25k/25k coverage the price is around 150 a month.

Those are insane prices but that might be because of your location and/or driving record. Through State Farm I only pay about $1400 a year for my 99 LS400. which was about the same as our previous 04 RX330. Our old 94 ES300 we just parted with a few months ago we were paying about $1000 a year.

You can be comparing a 10 year old V8 luxo-sedan to a 2 year old V6 sedan, and liability insurance will still insure the V6 less...

You need at least $300k in liability coverage in this day and age. Now one cares about your old Lexus, it is the damage you will cause.
Many times an insurance company will quote a very high rate because they do not want to write you a policy because you are a high risk.

Good grief... I haven't paid rates that high since I drove a LT1 Camaro Z28 at 16 years old.
Currently I'm 25 and my wife is 24 - we have high limits (well above legal minimum requirements) and a 2005 4Runner and 2006 Audi A4... we pay a little less than $100 per month, total, including road side assistance on the 4runner. Granted we are with USAA which is a great all around insurance company that's effectively non-profit.
I'm going to be replacing the 06 A4 with an 07 335i here in 5 more days, at which point my total premium will increase about 14 dollars per month... and 335is are VERY expensive to fix when frame damage comes into play due to their extensive use of aluminum.

My 97 M3 had lower insurance rates than my Integra, ES300, and Honda Civic during the same model years. incredible.
