Default Thinking about parting the GS :(

Wells guys,

I’m not sure if my time has come, but I’m seriously thinking about parting out my car. I have been a car enthusiast ever since I can remember. I popped a system in my mom’s maxima, then modded a gsr with lots of goodies, and I’m currently on a GS. My mom’s maxima has finally died and she needs a car, however she does not drive far at all. I actually drive about 45+ total miles each day. I’m thinking about getting a newer civic to save about $100 on gas each month (saving on gas would help pay for the car), and giving my mom the GS.

I can part my car out and get at least 4k from parts. Now to the average person this would make all the sense in the world, but I have just completely finished the GS about 8 months ago. I love the car!! It drives great and has everything I always wanted.

Driving home last night from a friend’s house, I was imagining driving a normal car. Just leaving the system, great lowered/handling suspension, and feel of a great car to do the most sensible thing. At first, I thought I could do, but after some more thoughts I had to question it. Everyone I ask, tells me to part the car, however they don’t know the “feeling.” So now I’m here to get some advice from people that know what I’m talking about.

Now, I’m a 25 year college grad and I’m still trying to live life as much as possible. I’m not starting a family or trying to buy a house. If that was the case, I know what I would be doing.

What have your experiences been? Did you guys regret parting the car? Do I have time to do it later? Should I just get car, let my mom drive the lowered GS and still keep the parts (chance that she can break stuff)?

Thanks again clublexus!! I hope this is not the end, but you guys have been there since before I bought my GS.

Keep your car. It's your baby. Don't give away your child, only to adopt another soon thereafter.

Let your mom buy a new/used car.

Keep the GS and let your mom to buy a new car. The money you save from gas in the years coming wouldn't justify the money you lose from selling the GS, and the love of the GS is priceless don't you think? Your mom might not like your GS, so she should pick her own car.

Another point to think of: Is your GS "functional"? Does it fit your needs (maintenance costs, gas efficiency, insurance costs, can you live with a smaller car, etc)?

If the GS is still "functional," keep it. If you can do with something that is more appropriate (read, something you need instead of something you want), then you can let it go...

No need for me to repeat what Rominl and Phil mentioned, my thoughts as well.
It can be a fine balance and only you know what suits practical and fun.

I know what you talking about, "feeling", yes feeling.
you are attached to the car, keep it, don't regret later.

why part it out? if you are used to driving with mods, driving a car without mods will never be the same.

I'd do it, why not? Family comes first.

Part it out and give it to your mom. Use some of that money for the down payment on the Civic. You can always buy another GS in the furture if you still want to and build another one. Helping out your family always make you feel good. I gave my mom our ES300 when her 92 ES300 blew a head gasket. Sure, I could have gotten $6K on the street for it, but who cares. It feels good to do something for family especially your parents. In the end it is just a car.
