And the fact that NYC taxis only average 14 mpg. Who's idea was it to use a car so inefficient. in nothing but stop and go? Cheap to buy yes, gasoline bill awfully high.

Well back when the Crown Vic was designed and marketed, the cost of gas was pretty insignificant compared to what the price is now.

No, that's not necessarily the reason. Cab drivers like the Crown Vic for several reasons, among being able to carry more people in the large back seat (and make more money), and the fact that the body-on-frame design and coil spring suspension is quite durable on NYC's awful streets (same here in D.C.). Cops like them for the same reason.....durablity on high-speed chases, and room in the back seat for prisoners and big police dogs.

I wouldn't be knocking it, if you ever drove one you would know that it's HP numbers are underrrated. The 4.6 engine is very similar to mustang's engine, and delivers quite a punch. I suggest you drive one, preferably with police package, you will be pleasantly impressed with its power and handling.

It's a big, heavy, luxury car. What do you expect? What do you expect?

apparently police departments were impressed enough with the vic to chose chargers and impalas instead, many of the PDs vehicles down here were crown vics here sometime ago now they are all impalas

vic gets crushed

The torque figure, however, is not-so-pathetic...275 ft lbs. Ford has always done that, for decades....designed V8's with more torque than HP. And you have to remember that this is an old engine by today's standards....it was designed during a period when this kind of torque was more or less the norm for V8's. Today it is more or less comparable to a the best V6's like the Nissan 3.5 and 3.7.
