Goodness, what a car.

My neighbor purchased this same exact color a couple weeks ago, he said it was a custom order and only a couple hundred were produced in it.

Looks much better in person.

Are prices really that low for M3's? This is kind of good news and bad news. One one had it is making used M3's very affordable. On the other hand this isn't good for my 2002 330i resale value which kbb has at 22K private party with the mileage and options I have. Who is going to by my car now if they can get an early E46 M3 for a few thousand? more I guess it depends where you live though. M3's are kind of common in my area, but I haven't seen even 2001's going for under mid $20K.

This is such a tempting move that people oversee the maintanance cost of these vehicles. 24,000 sounds excellent, but add maintanance, and it will still cost you an arm and a leg. I know this from many M3 owners.

I love this car, but would think twice about getting it if warrenty was over.

There is nothing really "custom ordered" about that color. They made 445 of them in that color between 2001 and 2005. Which is just about on par with all the other colors that they produced.

Exterior Colors:
Alpine White III (300), Imola Red (405), Jet Black (668), Laguna Seca Blue*** (448), Titanium Silver metallic (354), Steel Grey metallic* (400), Silver Grey metallic** (A08), Carbon Black metallic (416), Oxford Green metallic*** (430), Phoenix Yellow metallic**** (445), Topaz Blue metallic* (364), Mystic Blue metallic** (A07), Interlagos Blue metallic***** (A30)
*thru 2/03
**from 3/03

Good point but not if its a weekend/fun car. M5 prices are down too but carbon deposit issues make me cry.

How bad are used E46 M3s reliability wise? Electrical nightmare?

That's a good point, one I failed to mention and it's one of the reasons why my friend is getting rid of his too.

Yeah I have been watching these prices drop, and part of the reason is that the maintenance costs are outrageous for a 50k + car.

It makes me cry, that the beautiful E46 M3 wont stay together without 5-10k worth of maintenance each year. Control arms, subframes, Inspection I and II (4k) each hit, and silly SMG problems.

I have been trolling the E46 forums for a while, and the response from everyone over there is "it costs money to play with this car " Not to mention the bad BMW customer service that I have heard about repeatedly.

Such a shame.. here are a few threads..

ohh well, 3 of my clients ( young, at their early 20s ) bought used m3 this month, and they are all the same, bashing people, telling people how fast their cars are, killng stories and such... man, I love e46, but after seeing so many bad owners, do I want to be one of them???
Maybe I should go more mature and get a M5???

A great car to pick-up on the cheap if you can find a clean
one that's not ragged-out. Very popular here in SoCal... a lot
of guys are getting out of them as every Persian and Asian
kid now has one (I'm not disparaging anybody or any race,
I'm just stating the local M3 owner's demographic!) and they
are a bit played-out... especially with guys ready to pony-up
for the new V8 car.

Just keep on top of the maintenance and you'll be fine.

yeah, I kinda have to agree to this...there are a lot of nice owners out there but I do get that image also. In short, a douche. And the M3 isn't that fast...but really quick (I think of fast as in drag race, quick when it's going fast on the track/autocross).
