Default WARNING: "Your vanity plate says 'MUG ME.' "

ALSO, THE 10 THINGS THE DMV DOESN'T WANT TO TELL YOU:
From Yahoo News

#9:
WHY VANITY PLATES ARE ACTUALLY AN AD FOR THIEVES TO TARGET YOU

"Personalized license plates might seem like a harmless accessory, but they could make you a more likely target for criminals. Why? Because they communicate much more than the written message. "Personalized plates indicate that the person bearing them wants to be noticed," says Phil Messina, a retired New York City police officer and founder of a self-defense school in Lindenhurst, N.Y. "The downside of doing things that tend to 'get you noticed' is that they can get you noticed by the wrong kind of people."

Consumer advocate Tim Duffy agrees, pointing out that plates indicating the driver is a woman or a senior citizen or both -- as in "Katie's Grandma" -- are especially problematic. Spotting one of these plates in a parking lot, a mugger may hide behind or near the car, waiting for the driver to return. "You don't want to be a victim of a crime," Duffy says, "and you don't want to make it easier for someone to commit a crime."

I think the loud blasting of bass is the sole cause and not the plates...

I think it would be more likely of theft. "Hey this dude spent a grip on his car, lets jack it!"

That article really doesn't make sense to me - how can a vanity plate cause somebody to get mugged. You'll get mugged if you look like you have something to mug and some thug or druggie wants to steal something valuable. A vanity plate isn't like saying "I have diamond jewelry and cash in my wallet"...

Maybe they're vandalizing your car because you're being inconsiderate 'blasting bass'?

No, it is saying if your plate said like "Senior Citizen on Board" or something, the thief would see that and wait for the owner to return, probably a senior citizen, and mug them.

Therefore, the recommendation for vanity plates of license plate frames should say:

"I have a Black Belt in A$$KICKIN'!!!"

or

"Herpes Survivor"

I don't really buy into what the retired cop is saying. I would think the entire car or maybe flashy wheels will get you that attention by any thief.

Makes sense, it also follows that wearing your designer rags, $$ time piece, cell phone also communicates a similar message to would be thugs.

Thinking of plates, we saw one some weeks back in Japanese romanji that translated meant gangster kid.

Fortunately I am neither female, old, or any other targeted individual so looks like my plans on plates are going through
