Well, not quite. Most American-designed V8's today run at least 300 HP and 300 ft-lbs. of torque. (Some foreign-nameplate V8s run more HP and less torque).
What this engine really is reminiscent of, more or less, is the 3.5L V6 in the Acura RL.........a setup where that engine powers the RL so well, even with the weight and drag of AWD, that, IMO, it doesn't NEED a V8.

I think you have misread the press release. The standard 3.7L is not the engine Lincoln is referring to when it talks about V8 power with V6 fuel efficiency. Lincoln is referring to the twin-force engine that is still in the works. Think turbo, DI and V6.

The Lincoln MKS is powered by a Lincoln exclusive new 3.7-liter V-6 engine. The powertrain has been derived from the proven 3.5-liter V-6 found in the Lincoln MKX, which was voted one of Ward’s 10-Best Engines for 2007.
Both engines share the same strong, die-cast aluminum block and lightweight four-valve heads for smooth operation at high RPMs. The 3.7-liter’s larger cylinders contribute to the increase in horsepower and torque. This engine delivers 270 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift that delivers smoother shifts, better fuel economy, acceleration and the option to manually select gears.
“This engine is tuned to maximize the increased torque to improve performance where it’s needed most – standing acceleration and passing,” says Michael Celentino, chief engineer.
Less than a year after launch, the Lincoln MKS will be the first vehicle to offer Ford’s new gasoline turbo direct injection engine technology.

OK, maybe so. Anyhow, I've got this car on my review list, and when it becomes available, I'll check it out..........including the engine, of course.
I have a very high opinion of the Ford Five Hundred/Taurus and Mercury Montego/Sable, so I'm certainly not going to miss the Lincoln version of it.

One interesting feature on the new Lincoln MKS, besides the 'invisible keypad,' is the parking assist sensors which reportedly can also warn of the height of parking blocks (at the front of parking spaces), thus preventing lower bumper scrapes!

Be a little more judicious with the options sheet and you could get into an MKS in the low $40Ks. (The all-wheel-drive model starts at $40,355 including the $800 destination charge.)
The trouble is, there are a lot of fine vehicles on the market for $46,000 from premium makers that don't carry the baggage Lincoln has saddled itself with. Of course, they're not likely to be as large or carry as many gadgets.

I know what you mean - I'm sure I had that on a Mercury Cougar in the 80s. It was a pain then and I can't see myself entering 5 digits just to get into this. It's also incredibly bland and instantly forgetable amongst a number of similar saloons.

How's that factory ipod integration working for ya?
Or hard drive recording? Or many other cool features on Ford/Lincoln's Sync system you don't have?
How about that cassette player still on the 3rd gen GS?
