Toyota's New Formula 1 Racing Car Starts at Pole with Jan. 10 Debut
Toyota's 2007 Formula 1 car, as driven by outgoing driver Ralf Schumacher (pictured). Toyota says the 2008 car, to be unveiled January 10, will be "very different" and the team is surely hoping it will bring more success than this year's model.
COLOGNE, Germany — Toyota, the world's preeminent automaker but an underachiever in the extreme sport of Formula 1, will unveil its 2008 racing car on January 10, according to reports. That makes Toyota the provisional pole-sitter in the unveiling of new equipment.
BMW Sauber looks to be next; the team has announced it will introduce its new car on January 14-15.
No other debuts have been confirmed, but for the time being, Toyota can enjoy being in P1 with its TF108 — and hope it will deliver better performance than the TF107 offered. Drivers Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli managed only 13 points between them, sixth among the 11 teams and far behind constructors champion Ferrari (204 points).
Schumacher is gone, to be replaced by 2007 GP2 champion Timo Glock, who was confirmed Monday as the second driver for next season.
Pascal Vasselon, general chassis manager for the team, told F1 Racing magazine the new car "will be very different."
What it means to you: The TF108 will need to be not only different, but much better, if Toyota is to begin to see a performance return on its enormous investment in the F1 program it launched in 2002. — David Green, Correspondent

Silly Edmunds, other debuts HAVE been confirmed. Ferrari's 2008 car is debuting at around the same time as BMW Sauber's 2008 car.
Timo Glock has been confirmed and should give the team a boost compared to having Ralf Schumacher. Considering Glock has quite a bit of experience that includes being GP2 champion this year, he's also fairly young and should provide some fresh talent to the team.
Fernando Alonso still has not decided where he will go next year and word is that talks with Renault haven't been going too well. It's a very small chance, but if Alonso drives for Toyota next year (with Trulli being replaced) along with Glock then Toyota will most definitely improve. Alonso, apart from being a terrific driver is also a very technical person who works closely with car development.
We shall see in the next 1-2 weeks where Alonso is going.

Lets hope so, being a toyboi its kinda hard not to cheer for ferrari when toyota is battling with super aguri...
As for Alonso... Toyota is a Japanese company, Alonso has shown he has no honor, I doubt Toyota would pick him up. 'Honor' and 'Loyalty' is big in big business in japan. I know i wouldnt hire a backstabber, would you?

Toyota needs to improve. Unfortunately, F1 teams did some winter testing a couple of weeks ago and Toyota is still in the middle of the pack. Suprisingly, Ferrari tops all of them with Michael Schumacher driving...

I'm not a fan or anything but it'll be interesting to see how he does. for those interested here's a link to the first testhttp://www.iht.com/articles/2007/11/.../formula13.php
