Fantastic move by Nissan. The 350Z brought the first halo that had the Altima/Maxima etc guys thinking they had sports cars.

Now they bring a bigger halo, the GT-R, and that will boost Z sales and 240 sales. GREAT move.

They make Toyota look ridiculous, offering only one fwd, I-4 coupe in the tC that is not even badged a Toyota.

The rendering is total speculation. IF there is to be a new Sylvia I don't think they have a clue what it will look like.

The low weight contributed immensely to its cult status. I just hope they don't release an overweight fatso like the eclipse became.

That would be awesome I remember the old S14 and I still think it was/is a good looking car. Though most of them on the road are now beaters, once in a while I see a clean or nicely modded one and I cant help but look at it.

I think even if this car comes out slightly overweight, it they get the price right it will sell no matter what. Who else offers a RWD coupe for around $20k? If there is nothing else on the market and if this car will be produced Im pretty sure this car will do ok.

Offer 3 models: NA 4cyl (QR25DE I guess), turbo 4 (newer SR20 would be preferred) maybe with 1 of the GTR turbos, and a high end model with a detuned GTR motor with smaller turbos or something to drive costs down. Make it like $45kish and have 380-400hp or so at sub 3400lbs (portly Nissan will have a problem with that )

then it'd be faster and more expensive than the Z. Not happening.

I like the idea to have a $20k RWD sports coupe. Now the cheapest RWD car that you could buy are probably Mazda MX-5 but it is too impractical. The styling is very important for this kind of car to sell well even more than performance. It could be a bit slow, but it must look good and has nimble handling. Oh yeah the current Nissan lineup has a fat problem so I hope this car would look more slim like S15.

I would have to agree with Mr F1, I dont see Nissan offering a Silvia more expensive AND faster than the Z - I think that would defeat the purpose of this car. I agree though that it should have two engine available, and maybe a model with the bare minimum for the tuners a la Subaru with the TR WRX. IF they happened to come out with one that had 400hp and weighed under 3400lbs I think it would give the GTR a serious run for its money, which would not be a good thing haha... Then everyone would be saying about Nissan what is being said about BMW and the 335 vs M3; why not just buy the cheaper Silvia and mod the hell out of it to make it as fast, if not faster for 1/2 the price. Though I suppose that would not be as close a comparison as you have with the 335i and M3.

the problem is nissan would need a platform for the car. im not sure the costs would be worth it for the limited sales.

imo they should just build this:

and have it priced between the sentra se-r and the z. give it a boosted QR (250hp) + AWD. the sentra is ~200hp and the next Z will probably be 350hp, so they wont be stepping on any of their own toes. they already have the platform so cost justification is there. sure its not the sub $20k rwd car you all are looking for but its the most viable option imo.

if they did do the sub $20k rwd car, it would basically need to get the sentra se-r engine, brakes, etc and a versa-style interior. it would need to be on sale globally as well. thats the only way i could see it working and even then the odds seem tilted against it

Its not like its hard to do or anything... 350Zs arent very fast; they suffer from an overrated amount of horsepower and too much weight (pushing 3500lbs now)... I'm sure a $15k premium would put a high-end S16 out of most Z-buyers price range anyway; its not like it would compete and the cross-platform parts would allow them to cut the costs on the car and make a lot of money on it.

Nothing wrong with offering a top-tier model car in limited supply that would be faster than the Z. Hell, offer the same GTR setup with a little more power than the S16 for the Z.

the Z is much faster than anything at its price or less. (sub $30k)

Right, but those engines never made into the 240SXs in the States. I'm well aware of that, I was in High School when the Import scene blew up.
