Default Preview: 2010 Nissan Silvia (240SX)

As brilliant as the new GT-R is, its premium price tag and limited availability means it will be out of reach of most sports car lovers for some time to come. Then there’s the 350Z but it too can be a bit expensive for younger fans. Sadly, Nissan’s affordable sports car, the Silvia (240SX), no longer exists. In fact, Nissan’s image of late has been skewed towards the SUV segment, but this may soon change with speculation there’s a Silvia replacement in the works.

According to latest reports, Nissan Chief Carlos Ghosn and the carmaker’s COO Toshiyuki Shiga have both hinted at the return of the Silvia in 2010.

This rendering, which turned up on RocketPunch, gives a possible styling direction for the new coupe, and draws some of its lines from Nissan’s own Foria concept car.

Whatever the final version looks like, we just hope it retains the punchy four-banger and RWD layout of its predecessors.

S16! I would take it in a heartbeat if it had some derivative of the SR20DET (doubtful)....

Note to Nissan. Make it look more S15 and less Altima.

I know it's just a magazine rendering or whatever, just a word to the wise. Your fans and accountants will thank you for doing it.

Nissan better bring its A game.

I have a feeling that the upcoming Genesis Coupe 2.0 turbo RWD may have quite a few fans by then.

Smart move by Nissan. A new stronger HALO in the GT-R and then bring more coupes to market.

THey make Toyota look like big truck/SUV, hippie loving, green growing company in comparison. Its getting pathetic how they don't have anything sporty.

I remember the old 240SX... The engine IIRC, had very little HP, and ok Torque.

The SR20DET engine from the Asian markets is what gave the car its cult status.

Well, if you guys think back to the mid 90's, the 240SX wasn't really the entry-level Nissan sport coupe. That was the NX2000, which had, IMO, rather quirky looks, but handily undercut the 240SX in price, too. The NX2000, though, was FWD, and had less power than the 240SX, so, in some ways, it wasn't in the same class.

I looked at a 240SX, and considered one, when I was car-shopping in 1995, but ended up buying a Celica instead, despite the 240SX's greater power. The 1994-1999 Celica just mesmorized me with its stunning looks and great build quality.

The front-end styling is strongly reminiscient of some Alfa-Romeos, though it lacks the small, ovoid, Alfa-grille.

Im interested in a new 240/Silvia coupe, but this concept's styling is so non aggressive. Its too plain and boring to look at while it shows too many hints of the g35/37/altima coupe. And those chrome bars along the upper grille, screams SLK. From the S13 to S15, styling only got more aggressive and smooth, this IMO wouldnt cut it for the design.
