2008 Automobile All-Stars
http://www.automobilemag.com/feature...ars/index.html
All-Star: 2008 BMW 3-series
Maybe we should give it a lifetime achievement award, too. There's nothing surprising about this repeat All-Star winner.
All-Star: 2008 Chevrolet Corvette
Evolutionary improvements keep the Vette in a class of its own. The C6 gets a re-work for 2008 and we approve.
All-Star: 2008 Chevrolet Malibu
Putting General Motors and Detroit firmly back on the map. Chevy's new Malibu is a very competitive family sedan.
All-Star: 2008 Infiniti G35/G37
Psst! Looking for a wild good time? G hits the spot. The G35 sedan and G37 coupe provide enjoyment per dollar that rivals the venerable BMW 3-series.
All-Star: 2008 Lotus Elise
We loved it last year. We love it even more this time around. This lightweight Lotus makes the list once again.
All-Star: 2008 Mazda CX-9
The deviant crossover with the devil in its heart. The CX-9 is one family hauler we're more than happy to drive.
All-Star: 2008 Mercedes-Benz S-class
Like a perfect fairy tale, the luxury car that's just right. The Mercedes-Benz S-class is a luxury car All-Star.
All-Star: 2008 Porsche Boxster/Cayman
Pure indulgence, smile after smile, mile after mile. The Boxster and Cayman duo continue to please.
All-Star: 2008 Volkswagen GTI
Fast, fun, cheap, and German. If you don't like it, you're probably dead.
All-Star: 2008 Volvo C30
For adults only: The smoothly chic, Scandinavian cool four-seat hatch. Volvo's funky C30 parks itself in the All-Star garage.

Remember the Saturn Aura? And how some dealers had an Accord and a Camry in some of their showrooms for comparison? It won the North American Car Of The Year award, and sales have been dismal. Same basic platform as the Malibu.
I hope for GM's sake the Malibu does well and it delivers the goods. The competition would make it better for consumers in the family sedan segment.

No. Buick does not have a version of that platform. The Buick LaCrosse shares its platform with the Pontiac Grand Prix and Chevy Impala. The larger Buick Lucerne shares its platform with the Cadillac DTS.
The Malibu, as LexBob pointed out, shares its platform with the Saturn Aura, non-convertible Pontiac G6, and Saab 9-3. Of these, it is closest to the Saturn.

I'm actually glad to see Chevy back on top again with the Malibu. The Malibu has nothing to do with a Buick its actually based on one of Opel's chassis just like the Saturn Aura.
