Default You got $100,000 to buy THREE new cars...

We all know that a lot of us will have our dream car with $100k. Perhaps it's a fully loaded LS460L, a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the Nissan GT-R, a BMW M5, etc.

However, being that sometimes one car isn't enough to be functional for everyday use (a Porsche 911 can only hold so much grocery bags, and the M6's 12 mpg average is not the best for daily commuting...), it's probably better to have two or three cars in the garage.

Which THREE NEW VEHICLES would you choose?

Which THREE satisfies functionality, desire, comfort, sport, family use, the work horse, dirty jobs, towing, entertaining passengers, and prestige? WHY?

Now, don't just think about base prices. Think about the actual cost of the car and its options. Forget about taxes because that varies state to state to country.

My three:

Lexus IS350: a blend of enthusiastic driving and functionality. Able to have speed and sport, while still being able to carry passengers and save a bit on fuel when considering a car with 300+ hp. Good enough to be a daily driver. Loaded with my preferences: $46k.

Toyota Highlander: the family car for up to seven passengers, the ability to tow and haul, the cargo room for bulky items, and the reliability to keep doing what it needs to do, no matter what the kids or wife does to it. Loaded with my preferences: $37k.

Ducati Multistrada: O.K. I have to add a motorcycle to the list. Because there is no car than can provide this bike's functions. Sporty enough to be used in the canyons, and functional enough for long road trips. Price: $17k.

Yeesh, gotta think in USD now lol.

Camry Hybrid ($31,197): HSD, nav, leather, better than Yaris mileage. Great DD + family car

ES350 UL (~$44k): Luxury, prestige, going to dinner/concert/social event car.

Mazda5 GT ($22k): For the family trips, Home Depot/Ikea trips. It's small, economical, loaded with features and fun to drive (had it as a courtesy car for a week and loved it). It doesn't drive like an MPV at all.

Well if you're 21 and live in the city and don't need 3 cars at all you could do a ton with 100k.
STI (daily driver) $32-35k prices not announced
GSX-R600 (hey you added a bike) $10k

Pour the rest into mods

Thumbs up Here's my three:

For a $100,000, here's the three rides I'll get and why:

1) BMW 535Xi ($51,600) - Weekend use, out of state trips

2) Mazda6 4-Door Sedan ($28,590) - Daily commute to and from work

3) Ford F-150 ($17,350) - Hauling and moving stuff that may not fit in or could damage the prior two cars.

Well, you can probably squeeze in a Hyundai Accent as a third car...

335i coupe, Mazda6 station wagon, Mazda MX-5.
Could exceed $100K depending on how loaded they are . . .

Alright Philip, second time around

GS 350 with Nav/ML- Rang in at $51,380

GX 470 with Nav/ML- Rang in at $52,668

I guess I don't need the bike afterall!

I could have gone for an IS 350 and Highlander and had some money left over but I really, really love the GX. It's probably one of my favorite products in the lineup with all things considered- size, power, practicality, luxury, looks. It's funny because I was able to drive one for a good bit of the summer while I interned with Lexus and before that I kind of considered it the lame duck of the Lexus family. Now, it's probably one of the two that I would most like to own. The GX is good for a family, trips, projects, off roading if you need it, and also a night out on the town.

My rationale for picking the GS...I would have picked the IS 350 but it's simply too small. The GS has the same engine and is a bit bigger obviously, and I like the interior luxury appointments and styling. As much as I hate the over boosted and artificial steering...I love the rest of the car.

So, I'll forgo the third and get two nicer ones

Do I have to buy three and I'm assuming they're all for me, not one of them for my wife?

Because I'd rather buy one or two with a 100k budget.

But anyhow.

I'll say 2008 Silverado crew cab 5.3 V8, go light on the options... 23k out the door
There's my work vehicle

2008 Accord EX 4-cyl sedan with leather and nav for around 29k out the door
There's my practical daily driver

With the remaining 48k I'd go for a 2008 Corvette with 3LT, auto, and magnetic selective ride control as the only options.
There's my weekend cruiser.

That would use up pretty much exactly the 100k including tax assuming I could negotiate and such...

If I could do two cars then it'd probably be more like a 35k dollar GMC Sierra Denali and a 65k dollar LS460 (non-L with only nav and lev)

For $100k - if I had to have 3 cars - I'm guessing you want something along the lines of sporty driver, sedan, and SUV. I hate SUVs, so I'm just going to earmark like 40k for one.

For sedan - I don't think there's any question that I'd get the IS350 with ML, maybe the Sport package, but since we're being cost conscious, no nav and I'd toss my nuvi in it. So that'd be about $40k?

For a sporty car - honestly, I love the MR2. One summer, I borrowed my friend's SW20 which he turbo'd and it was a blast to drive. It sold me on the benefit of mid engine layout. I know we're probably not supposed to do used cars here but it's not like the SW20 comes any other way now. But if we use the new MR2 price, it's $26k. More if you turbo it, I guess, although it's not necessary.

That leaves $34k for the SUV. You can pick one.
