The third sedan that will be built on this new chassis is the surprise. Rolls-Royce will utilize the 7-Series platform to build a less expensive luxury car. Of course, "less expensive" in this case means the $150,000 to $200,000 range.
Rolls-Royce will be hoping to take a bite out of Bentley's Continental Flying Spur with this new model. Production timing and styling still remain a mystery, however, we may get the first clue at the upcoming 2008 NAIAS.
Parent company BMW and Rolls-Royce have admitted a smaller Roller is in the pipeline, but they have not disclosed technical details.
Rolls-Royce CEO recently said the new model will be "unmistakably a Rolls-Royce" and should "more than double our overall sales."

Well it may bring a group of consumers into Rolls that wouldn't ordinarily give an RR a look. At that price range they are just above some of the high end luxury sedans, so by doing this they are literally throwing out the line with some bait and see if some decide to throw in a little more in the pot and get an RR.

I think it could work, also it's not like it will be small it's probably going to be 5000 lbs instead of 6000+ lbs like the Phantom.
I think some people spend $150K on a S-Class and such would like an option to get a real luxury make for the same cost. I know Bentley is an option but IMO RR/BMW would make an ideal combination of quality and driving dynamics.
I can't imagine the Phantom is so hot to drive with it's massive size. I drove a 12-passanger van on vacation and was hard to park etc.. while a 7-series size is more normal size.

I think at one time(in the 60's, 70's, 80's, & I think even early 90's ?), they produce the Rolls Royce Phantom V,VI, etc., together with the smaller Silver shadow, Silver Spirit, etc., & the Corniche convertible simultaneously.
Just an example, if you google, you can find a 1973 model year Phantom VI, Silver Shadow & a Corniche convertible, all the same model year ..., & I think for many other years too . . . . . .
