Chrysler LLC Announces Overall November 2007 U.S. Sales Down 2 Percent as Consumer Spending Remains Flat

- Chrysler brand car sales rise 9 percent over November 2006; led by
Sebring Convertible
- Chrysler Town & Country up 10 percent on the success of the new model
- Jeep(R) brand sales down 2 percent year-over-year
- Dodge brand sales up 6 percent from the same period last year led by
Dodge Avenger, Charger, and Nitro
- Dealer inventory down 4 percent or 18,612 units versus November 2006

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler LLC dealers
delivered 161,088 new vehicles to U.S. customers in November 2007, down 2
percent compared with a year ago. All sales figures are reported as
unadjusted.

"Despite consumer concerns, Chrysler LLC sales are off only 2 percent
showing customers are still purchasing quality and value. High fuel prices
and falling home prices continue to impact vehicle sales in November which
remain below trend," said Darryl Jackson, Vice President - U.S. Sales. "We
remain optimistic moving into December due to the growing availability of
new models, including Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan and the
Jeep Liberty."

Chrysler brand car sales were led by the Sebring Convertible, which
increased sales to 2,039 units compared with 195 units a year ago, up 946%.
Chrysler Town & Country sales rose 10 percent to 12,629 units versus
November 2006 with 11,507 units.

High fuel prices impacted Jeep(R) brand results, down 2 percent versus
November of last year. Large SUVs saw the greatest impact with Jeep(R)
Commander down 45 percent at 4,391 units versus November 2006.

Dodge brand car sales increased 75 percent over last year by steady
sales of the Dodge Charger with 10,341 units delivered.

"The recently launched "Event of a Lifetime" program has resonated well
with customers and will be continued through January 2, 2008," said Michael
Keegan, Vice President - Volume Planning and Sales Operations. "We continue
to offer customers a great value package and on select 2008 models we will
extend the 0% APR through 60 months."

Chrysler finished the month with 480,424 units of inventory, or an
75-day supply. Inventory is down by 4 percent compared to November 2006
when it was at 499,036 units.

Default Mazda Reports November Sales

IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Following three consecutive
months of double-digit sales increases, Mazda North American Operations
(MNAO) today reported a 1.0 percent decrease in sales for November with
20,580 vehicles sold. Mazda's year-to-date sales remain strong with 271,181
units sold, accounting for a 9.0 percent increase.

"Housing uncertainties, rising fuel prices and sagging consumer
confidence all year long have finally conspired to slow Mazda's winning
pace," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. "Three consecutive
months of double-digit increases, driven primarily by increased
availability of MAZDA3 and a first year of CX-9 sales that exceeded even
our expectations, still see us as one of the strongest car companies in the
business. We're selling cars and crossover SUVs, we're making money and our
outlook for the year continues strong."

Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) reported sales of 1,468 units, accounting
for a 74 percent increase over November 2006. On a year-to-date basis, MMdM
reported 14,452 total sales, an increase of 132 percent.

Rounding out North America, Mazda Canada, Inc. (MCI) sales were down
9.9 percent with 4,715 units sold. On a year-to-date basis, MCI sales are
up 7.1 percent with 81,848 units sold.

Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Mazda North American Operations
oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda
vehicles in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico through
nearly 900 dealers. Operations in Canada are managed by Mazda Canada, Inc.,
located in Ontario, Canada, and in Mexico by Mazda Motor de Mexico in
Mexico City.

The new MDX is up almost 10% for the year and the RDX is up 213% for year in its 2nd model year. As we all know, YTD is MUUUUUCH more important than a single month. Especially when comparing the MDX's DEBUT month of full sales to a year later, obviously there will be a difference. But like I said, YTD is what people should be looking at. The TSX is in its 6th model year. The fact that it sells the way it does is nothing short of a success for Acura. The 2nd gen TSX due this spring will sure stir things up. The TL is in it's 5th model year but it still manages to outsell the IS, go figure. Acura did something right with the TL. The RL is in its 3rd model year. Not much to say about that though. Arguably one of the best cars in its class but pathetic sales. Overall YTD Acura sales are down, but not by the 25% thats posted. That 25% figure is highly misleading because of the fact that Acura continues to include the RSX and NSX in their sales reports. Not that the NSX was exactly a sales leader, but the RSX was a fair selling car for Acura, selling over 16,000 units this time last year, a year after it was already discontinued. So in general, the new models from Acura are selling well.

Lexus seems to be having the same problem as Acura. Every single Lexus SUV is down for the year. The IS is up less than one percent for the year and it is a new model. The LS has been out about a year and already is suffering from a dramatic sales drop. ES sales dropped quite a bit as well also. Even though, seems like only the newest released models (IS, ES, LS) are whats holding up sales, just like Acura with the MDX and RDX. So 6/9 Lexus models are down YTD.

Good for the MDX and RDX, those are all new models, the Lexus SUVs are all in the mid-end of their model cycle by comparison. And, I should point out that the IS is now towards mid-cycle and has many newer competitors (C/CTS/G) yet is still doing very well. The LS is still doing quite well, in fact excellent...historically around the 2,000 unit mark IIRC, and now above it. The popular Lexus models historically have high anticipation and higher sales than average in the first year.

Agreed that YTD is key, monthly is far less important. I think we can all take a bit off the interpretation, 1-5% either way is not so big, and the model cycle can be examined for each maker...also the relative importance to each manufacturer. With the RX sales holding steady, that vehicle is 1/3 of all Lexus sales and that helps it achieve its leadership position, as does the ES and IS. Definitely need to watch for BMW at its back; although I wouldn't mind seeing Lexus slow down in sales and focus more on quality and improved service. Can we say exclusivity?

Acura is doing ok from what I see, as the #2 Japanese luxury brand, they continued with their stalwart MDX and the successful TL/TSX combos, that's what keeps the lights running, but there is untapped potential in the brand IMO. Audi has gained significantly in key markets, and does seem to be at the heels of some other makes.

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec 3 – Continued growth in crossover sales and increased demand for hybrids, fuel-efficient cars and Ford's industry-exclusive SYNC in-car connectivity technology drove Ford Motor Company’s (NYSE:F) sales in November. Company sales totaled 182,951, up 0.4 percent versus a year ago. November marked the first sales increase following 12 months of declines.

“It is encouraging to see our newest cars, crossovers, hybrids and industry-first SNYC technology resonating with customers,” said Mark Fields, president, The Americas. “Continuing to deliver more quality products that people really want and carefully gauging customer demand in the months ahead will help ensure we stay on track with our plan.”

Consumer demand continues to grow for the all-new Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossover utility vehicles. Edge sales were 12,594 and Lincoln MKX sales were 3,360. Total sales of crossover utilities, including the redesigned Ford Escape, Ford Taurus X, and Mercury Mariner were 33,271, up 119 percent compared with a year ago. Escape Hybrid and Mariner Hybrid models set November sales records.

Sales of the new 2008 Ford Focus were up 18 percent compared with a year ago. Focus is one of 12 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models equipped with SYNC, an affordable, industry-exclusive in-car connectivity technology that fully integrates most Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and MP3 players into a customer’s driving experience.

“All of our SYNC-equipped models are turning quickly,” said Fields. “Affordable technology that integrates mobile communication and entertainment devices appears to be resonating with consumers. Beyond that, SYNC appears to be changing opinions about Ford and elevating consideration for our products and brands.”

Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan also contributed to the company’s November sales increase. Fusion sales were up 39 percent and Milan sales increased 43 percent.

Lincoln continued its winning streak in November as retail sales climbed 4 percent. November marked the 14th straight month of higher retail sales for the premium brand. Total Lincoln sales in November were down 7 percent, reflecting lower fleet sales.

In November, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales to individual retail customers were 3 percent lower than a year ago. Sales to daily rental companies were down 6 percent, but sales to commercial fleet and government customers were up 25 percent.

Sorry but you continue to show you have no understanding of the automobile business. They have a lot to worry about and the only people *yawning* seem to be potential customers.

The sales performance of the Hyundai Sonata has been just amazing. Almost 140,000 in the last year. Still not in Camry or Accord territory, but strong enough to take a good bite at their heels. Apparantly the word is getting out that this is a NICE car......and a nice warranty....... for the money.

And that's not just idle talk on my part. While it would not be my first choice for a new car, I could easily live with one if I owned it...and the new interior coming up next year will just be that much nicer.

To be fair, the RDX was not sold since January of last year so the 212% increase is a bit misleading as this year has had more selling time.

Unfortunately I think its fleet sales percentage is HUGE.
