Just my opinion, but there are some pics of the redone exterior of the Sonata, and looks like they added a lot of chrome which might be a bit tacky. The current look seems fairly mainstream. Unless they are trying to go upscale and think that's the way to do it. Do they want to be an entry-luxury brand (Azera, Genesis) or the next Nissan?
Now is when the December holiday sales events are in full swing, we'll see if that puts an extra bump on the final year's tally. Wow...2007 went by fast!

Interesting numbers, 31,027 units separate Lexus and BMW, 30,768 separate Cadillac and Acura, and 29,359 separate Infiniti and Audi, and a lesser number with Volvo and Buick compared between them, etc. There are slightly different Volvo numbers quoted by the Volvo pr and a Ford NA one: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/st...4715530&EDATE=

I'm pretty sure Lexus has had monthly declines before. More importantly, the numbers YTD...294,623 vs. 285,199, an increase. It's also worth noting that the larger brands usually post smaller % increases because their volumes are so large to begin with.

A story in the December 3 issue of Automotive News alerted me to the fact that through October, the Honda Odyssey narrowly (144,718 vs 141,477) secured the #1 sales slot for minivans in the USA. This is the first time the Odyssey has taken the slot, which has been traditionally held by Chrysler's Caravan. With today's release of the November sales figures, the Odyssey has extended the lead slightly with 158,139 units compared to the Caravan's 154,824.
The Caravan was redesigned just this year, and its sales figures are well off (-21%) the pace of 2006. For 2008, the Odyssey has also gone through a very quiet mid-cycle model change, but in a waning market its sales are only off 2.7% compared to 2006.
Automotive News quotes an analyst who predicts that Chrysler will respond aggressively in December in hopes of regaining the top spot.

Please, Infiniti has nothing to worry about - Infiniti is up 2.1% for november, and Audi is down 1.1%. The trend is dictating that Infiniti is continuing to sell more cars, while Audi is selling less and less. If anything, Lexus should be worried about being passed by BMW soon.

November Auto Sales Weak
By Kevin Krolicki Mon Dec 3, 5:53 PM ET
DETROIT (Reuters) - U.S. auto sales slipped in November, led by an 11 percent drop at General Motors Corp (GM.N), as a weak housing market and higher gasoline prices kept buyers from showrooms and heightened concern that the industry was headed for a deepening downturn.
Retail sales for all three Detroit-based automakers turned lower in November. Executives across the industry cautioned that sales would remain under pressure headed into 2008 because of increasing economic uncertainties.
Both Ford and GM, which have recently clinched cost-cutting labor deals with the United Auto Workers, responded to the sales dip by cutting first-quarter production plans from year-earlier levels.
Ford (F.N) posted a narrow sales gain of 0.4 percent for November, marking its first monthly increase after a full year of unbroken declines. Ford's gain was driven mostly by stepped-up sales of vehicles to commercial fleet operators.
Toyota Motor Corp. (7203.T), which has eclipsed Ford for the No. 2 position in the U.S. market, eked out a slight sales gain of 0.3 percent but saw sales for its luxury Lexus brand drop by 7 percent.
"Rising fuel prices and sliding home values delivered a one-two punch this month," Toyota's U.S. sales chief Jim Lentz said in a statement.
Toyota's Japanese rivals posted more limited sales gains than analysts had forecast. Nissan Motor Co (7201.T) rose 6.1 percent. Honda Motor Co (7267.T) sales rose 4.7 percent.
CSM Worldwide analyst Michael Robinet said the cutbacks announced by both Ford and GM showed that U.S. automakers were taking advantage of new flexibility in their just-completed labor pact to idle capacity in the face of slack demand.
"They're coming to terms with the real economics of the industry," he said. "No longer is Detroit just out to move the metal."
Industry-wide U.S. sales of cars and light trucks were down about 1.6 percent in November from a year earlier at 1.18 million vehicles, according to tracking service AutoData Corp.
Ford, which is battling to stabilize market share, cut production by 7 percent and said it would keep a tight lid on output in light of the weakening economy.
GM cut its planned production by 11 percent.
"Vehicle sales have softened over the last few months. We believe this reflects concerns about the credit and stock market squeeze, along with the ongoing adjustments consumers are making in response to housing and gasoline prices," Ford economist Emily Kolinski Morris told reporters and analysts.
"Clearly we're concerned about the credit market turmoil and the softer economy, so we're taking a cautious approach to planning our business," she said.
GM's sales chief Mark LaNeve echoed that sentiment. "We don't want to bury our dealers in inventory," he told analysts. "We want to try to continue to run leaner on inventory."
'TOUGH' MARKET
Nissan sale chief Mark McNabb said industry-wide sales had been weaker than expected in November amid signs that a weaker housing market in states such as California and Florida had been a continued drag on sales.
"It was a tough market," McNabb told Reuters. "It was tougher than I anticipated."
Despite the weaker demand, the major U.S. automakers largely stuck to a recent tactic of avoiding deep discounting by better managing inventory and production levels.
Edmunds.com said the average incentive offered on a new vehicle in November rose less than 1 percent from a year earlier to $2,309.
Chrysler and Ford both cut incentive spending from year-earlier levels, Edmunds said.
GM spent slightly more, putting average incentives for all three Detroit-based automakers in a narrow range of about $3,100 to $3,300 per vehicle, Edmunds estimated.
Jesse Toprak, an analyst with the industry-tracking Web site, said the more disciplined pricing approach gave major automakers room to increase targeted discounts next year if demand remains weak. "The manufacturers have become much smarter about incentives," he said.

Lexus, wow the LS dropped 1,000 units. I am going to assume that is due to the LS debuting last Nov and also them dumping the LS 430 at bargain prices last year. ES is down 700 units.
GS is up 20% for the 350 and 10% for the 450/460!! Finally some good news. IS sales up 7%, remaining VERY solid!! RX flat, amazing for an older SUV. GX holding well too!!
SC is going to sell lower and lower till the new one arrives and the LX needs to arrive!

The LS will be interesting to watch. Is it going to continue to decline or hold steady going forward? Have some of the issues in the early builds caused any longer lasting sales effect?
Nice to see the IS keeping strong and here's to hoping they break out IS-F from the general IS pool when sales begin next year.

So let me get this straight. I have no understanding of the automotive business, but yet you (a self-proclaimed automotive expert?
) have the nerve to say that Infiniti better watch out for Audi because they might surpass them in sales soon?

Ouch. Looks like the party is over at GM after a couple of months of sales increases that were due to high incentives and fleet sales. 11% sales drop, and retail sales overall dropped 9.7% for GM. I predicted that this was going to happen.
Looks like the Odyssey might possibly overtake the Caravan as best-selling minivan. Pretty amazing.
The Camry continues to post strong sales numbers despite increasing competition. Prius sales continue to be phenomenal. Interesting that Corolla sales and Civic sales were roughly equal, despite the Civic being relatively new and the Corolla being so old and dated. Also add to the fact that factories are winding down 2008 Corolla production in preparation for 2009 Corolla production. This just shows how much of a great reputation the Corolla has.
Highlander sales were up compared to last November, and it looks like the Highlander critics on CL have dissapeared all of a sudden.![Big Grin](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

GS350 sales were up 19% and yes GS460/GS450h sales were up only 20 cars. Also of significance is that Infiniti M sales were down over 20%. Looks like the GS will win the sales title over the Infiniti M this year.
LS sales should remain strong as word continues to spread about the LS hybrid. It will have an increasing halo effect on LS sales in general. YTD LS sales are still way up.
As for the whole argument that Lexus sales are down and that only new Lexus models are supporting sales, ALL the Lexus sedans are up YTD with the exception of the GS. RX sales are only down a little bit and still remain strong. Same with the GX, even though both the RX and GX are quite dated. LX sales are down because the LX570 goes on sale in the next few weeks.
Lexus is still up YTD. It is shocking how much Acura has dropped YTD. Acura is definitely losing ground in the luxury market.

I agree with your points in general. The GS though is nothing to be excited about. 20 more cars (sadly that's what 10% works out to) shouldn't have anyone at Lexus going ![Woohoo](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/woohoo.gif)
