Rarely do I look at the sales target percentage because it's more of an ego booster than anything. The actual sales number is much more impressive than the 300%. It's easy to hit a target when you set it at a low number. Lexus can release the LF-A with a target of 10 and sell 100 of them. That's a whoopin 1000% increase.

Even if Lexus set a target of 10,000 LS600h and only sold 6,000, I would still be VERY impressed by the number as a whole.

Number was not low.
1. First 100k Lexus (hell Japanese branded sedan) available to the public.
2. Cars are built by ONE TEAM of Lexus employees.
3. No prior precedent for a car of this magnitude.

The Forecasters might have been inaccurate but Lexus doesn't fudge numbers, their numbers have been ethical like BMW or Benz figures.

The Lexus LS 600h L is also the most expensive Japanese sedan ever made, more than the Toyota Century! It was a gamble of sorts, but initial results indicate that high-rollers are willing to pay for a 100K Lexus.

Well my point was that percentages isn't as impressive as the actual sales number. At the end of the day, the amount of cars sold turns into profit for lexus.

We both know auto companies love throwing out huge percentage increases out there. Everyone does it.

Marketing probably gets a raise, the forecaster probably got written up!

it was a really good gamble in that case, coz' i am pretty sure lexus knew they would hit it with the car

2000 was the target for the US alone, so they actually sold 6000 of them after all here alone in the US?

i remember the first 3 weeks or so they sold 4000 ls600 in japan (or something like that)

Maybe first gen Lexus hybrids but the HSD technology they're using is much more advanced than that. In fact, all Lexus hybrids are using a newer HSD setup than the Prius. All of them are using more powerful batteries (The Prius has 201.6V) and the inverters are much smaller and step up the voltage to 650V (vs. 500V in the Prius). In addition, the RX uses a flatter battery setup (under the seat) as opposed to the more boxy batteries of the GSh and LSh.

yep... this is more like 3rd generation of toyota hybrids.
Main reason MPG isnt much better than RWD LS460 is that it is AWD.

But Lexus did the right thing there, because flagship luxury sedan has to have AWD.

No wonder I got such a dismissive letter from Lexus corporate when I wrote to explain that I cancelled my LS600hL order due to poor pre-sales information and customer service from my dealer...

Weren't they concerned a little while ago about not selling their target? Crazy how they sold so many of those.

the LS600Lh is only offered in the US as an extended version and it features awd. It's EPA estimated combined fuel economy is 21mpg compared to 19mpg for the LS460. Compare it to the S550 4matic's 16mpg and the LS600h fuel economy looks quite good.

Additionally, it's not as much mpg for the environment, it's also emissions. While of course this is not a Prius, in comparison with other V12s the LS 600h L is cleaner.

well it does get SULEV doesn't it? That's pretty clean.

The Prius' AT-PZEV is SULEV but with zero evaporative emissions. IOW, zero evaporative emissions is the difference btwn PZEV and SULEV.

Don't we make fun of Escalade Hybrid on this board?

same thing goes to LS600hl on the Escalade board.
