ULSD has 15 ppm so I'm not sure where GM's cleaning up the extra 10ppm of sulphur.

Also, isn't it the same technology as BlueTec and BlueMotion? If so, it's still Tier 2 Bin 5 or ULEV-II.

How so?

The 335i diesel is pretty darn quick and the gas mileage is far better than the "fast" hybrids you see out there.

I'd like to see a diesel hybrid.

I have a dislike for Prius' because there always seems to be so many of them that drive rudely in my area. I swear they never want to let me do a lane change over and try to accelerate only when they sense me trying to pass. I just think, there goes your fuel economy. Then I chuckle passing them in 6th....

yeah... problem with diesel hybrids is that they are really expensive and you lose some of the benefits of hybrid petrols (emissions, smoothness/NVH) and again, it will add a lot to the price of already expensive diesels.

Okay, Lexus has proven you can make fast hybrids. And while BMW makes some quick diesels, Topgear has shown us that they may be more fuel savvy than their gasoline counterparts, but they still arent as fast and Clarkson claims that they don't have that "electric'' feel to them.

While a vehicle such as the 335d is more fuel efficient than say a GS hybrid, its still not as fast as the GS nor it is it the same size. You could compare it to an Altima hybrid, though that still isn't quite on par, in which case the Altima has better gas mileage.

A comparison between the RX400h and the ML320 CDI will tell you that RX not only gets better gas mileage, but it also is almost two seconds quicker to hit 60 MPH.

sorry to hear those in your area are rude.

Yeah the 335i is quick but so is the GSh (I know, not the same class).

The GSh is as quick, if not quicker than the GS430.

The 530d is slower than the 545i (I think it's 530d, not 535d. It's the one Top Gear tested).

In fact, all the hybrid versions are quicker than their non hybrid counterparts.

Do you know if the 335d is faster than the 335i?

335d has considerably more torque but less hp. It is a bit slower but the gas mileage is better than its hybrid counterpart. I'd love to have the choices here. I just find it funny when hybrids barely get better gas mileage than the non-hybrid versions. To me, that defeats the purpose.

There's no 3 series hybrid as far as I'm concerned .

Yeah but keep in mind that beforehand, hybrids = slow, funny-looking econoboxes. The HiHy, RXh, HAH and GSh were designed to show people - Look, if you want a hybrid to be a performance car, we can do it too.

definite barely. I guarantee the difference is there whether you're a lead foot or not.

I remember when this auto journalist said that the GSh is not fuel efficient when driven hard. Well no ******! Neither is the GS430. The bonus with the GSh is that when you're driving to work on the weekdays, you're not paying the fuel penalty. In Canada, the GSh is faster, more fuel efficient, cheaper, cleaner and better equipped than the BASE GS430. The GS had absolutely no case other than it's a V8. The GS460 presents a better case for itself.

Same with the Prius. I had fun in the snow in an empty parking on a full tank. The result is 8L/100km (about Corolla city mpg). I get no worse than the Corolla's official rating. Drive it normally and I got it back down to 6L/100km (Yaris hwy rating). Even more careful driving and I got back to the mid 5s before I had to refuel. (> 40mpg)

I realize there is no 3 series hybrid. What I'm saying is, the 335D gets far better gas mileage than the 335i. Much more so than the GS450h than it's non Hybrid counterpart. Make sense? Look at the EPA numbers.

^^True and 335d reviews in EVO and Car etc have been phenomenal. No diesel though runs as clean as a hybrid, thus the increased tax credits in Europe for buying a hybrid.

i dont know if anyone in their right mind would get 335d over 335i.

I just wish that you guys in US finally get diesel options, so you can see for yourself the pros and cons of diesel engines, instead of reading about them.

Got it. Sorry about the confusion.

True.. but.. a 4,000rpm redline? My Prius has a higher redline than that .

But then again, the 330d did well in Top Gear's 24 Hour race this past Sunday (except for a blown clutch and.. turbo?) lol.
