Lightbulb Subaru Impreza WRX STI Versus Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X... IT'S ON !

Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
The new Impreza has had a lot of people talking about it, but not the way most would have imagined...the "questionable" design was highly criticized, but most were hoping for a better tomorrow thanks to the STi version, which usually tops the sports range of the manufacturer. To "deserve" the STi designation, the new Impreza was fitted with a new aero bodykit including the usual front/rear bumpers, side skirts, rear spoiler and new exhaust. Under the bonnet lies a 2 liter Boxer 4 cylinders turbocharged motor, producing something around 310HP (almost impossible to get the real figures without using a dyno) and 422Nm of torque.

Lancer Evolution X.
On the other hand, the "Beast" Evo X, was instantly acclaimed for its incredibly mean and aggressive style, and the amount of new and impressive technology which it was carrying mechanically.
Unlike its "enemy", the Evo X receives a sporty treatment in the form of a raging bodykit including an enormous rear spoiler which fits right in. The interior got us pretty disappointed as Mitsubishi didn't prepare anything original; of course you're reminded here and there that you're inside an Evo, but the whole layout and equipment are coming straight from a "standard" Lancer/Galant... we would have appreciated bigger ways to differentiate the beauty from the beast...

I saw an STi on the road today in white... are they already on sale? It had dealer plates on it.

And it looked really quite good.

I thought the STI has a 2.5L boxer 4, while the evo only has a 2.0L I4.

You're correct.

I still think the Impezza looks much better than the Lancer.

Not entirely true... for us North Americans we get a 2.5L boxer. The rest of the world gets a 2.0L boxer. Some say the 2.0L motor is kept because it complies with the WRC engine size limitations, some say the bump in displacement for the USA helps maintain power while complying with our stricter emissions. I agree with both, all I know is that the rest of the world gets to rev higher.

Gotta say, after I "drove" it in GT5P, I like STI a LOT. Its so easy to be fast. I drove IX as well, and you gotta work it a lot more, just like articles in CAR suggest.

I might sell my 07 IS250 and buy a 09ish STI in 2 years.

Sure it's not a WRX? Those are on sale right now.

as a wrx owner and mitsubishi turbo car lover and owner of many, i have to say i'm disappointed with both.
the true nature and purpose of the cars has been destroyed by trying to make them "nicer" "more mature" to appeal to the masses.
gone are the econoboxes with overengineered, ridiculously powerful drivetrains and lightning reflexes. that was why they became so popular, lots of performance for little money. now the raw performance is not so raw, and the money is not so little....

I think it is a smart move to appeal to the masses. We just need to convince them to release a STI RA model over here...

The Subie dealership on capitol automall expressway has 3 08 sti's with the bbs wheel package. A red is in the showroom floor and looked really impressive in person. They also had a silver and white/gold bbs rims. I almost walked out with the white one as they offered me a great number on my trade and decent number near invoice on an 08 white sti w/ no navi for 37k. i then slapped some sense into myself and went an infiniti dealership and took delivery of a new 08 g35s.

The sti's a nice car for what it is, but definitely not for me. For the performance junkie reluctant about about hatch body styling I would advise checking it out in person, it looks much more aggressive that what pics show online.

from a business standpoint, yes, but from an enthusiasts standpoint, hell no.
i dont' want it to be smooth, comfortable, with all the options a lexus has, etc.
i want it raw, loud, rough riding and able to *** rape pretty much any other car on the road.
i've always been a fan of the base model platforms with drivetrains of much higher performance than anyone expects.

guess i'll stick to the older models....

Isn't the price like $3k more than the outgoing model? (STI)
I'm probably going to pick up an STI or WRX in about a year or so.

I like this one, but I think by far the best is the bugeyed look. The "pignose" look was kinda grotesque but this one is better than the last.
I looked on Subaru's website the only two options are BBS package and BBS/Nav package. The BBS/Nav is an extra 3.8k. The BBS package alone is 2k.
Bringing this car to ~40k fully optioned.
