LOL. True. Keep in mind this is a 650HP car in 2009. Rest assured, by 2020 this 650 HP engine will easily meet federal fuel mileage regulations. Technology will make it happen, just like it has for the past 30 years.

Maybe. But even if it is possible to combine high power with high gas mileage (or mileage with other fuels like alcohol, hydrogen, natural gas, etc....) what good will it do with traffic congestion, by then, to the point where there will be gridlock almost everywhere? It's gridlock in enough places NOW.

650 HP means nothing if you get in your car and sit still. And, even worse, what is your gas mileage sitting in traffic with engine idling? Right. 0 MPG. That is why many hybrid systems cut the engine off at idle, once it is at operating temperature.

This is one of the things I dread about our future - extreme road congestion.

Population will increasingly grow at an alarming rate forcing tons more people onto the already busy roadways. They aren't making anymore land these days and our population could be doubled in like 30 years. So yeah, what will a fast car be good for?

Well in Mass. a fast car is useless today because there's so many speed traps.

As for population growth, no reason to believe they'll all live where it's already crowded today. Many currently small towns will become bigger.

Plus, in 30 years hopefully cars will drive themselves, so even if it's crowded it will be much more efficient, safe, and who cares if it takes a while - just work on the holographic laptop.

What is that solution that the rest of the world uses again.... oh right. MASS TRANSPORTATION! Especially in California, all I want is a bart or train that can get me from san francisco to los angeles in a reasonable time. = or < by car.
