Mitsubishi hopes to conquest BMW and Audi buyers
Mitsubishi is hoping that those rushing into BMW and Audi dealerships to pick up a new ‘08 model will take notice of the new redesigned 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. They would also like some more female shoppers to check out the new 295 horsepower beast.
Mitsubishi believes that while Evo shoppers have always been mostly men and rally fans, the new refined Lance Evoution may be attractive to those luxury sedan shoppers looking at a new 3-Series, A4, C-Class or G37.
Pricing for the base GSR model with a five-speed manual transmission begins at $34,000. The range topping MR model with the new Twin Clutch-Sequential Sportshift Transmission begins at $39,000.
Officials say that these are conservative estimates at the moment and are hoping that the final pricing will come in $1,000 less for each model.
The new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR and MR are both powered by a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC MIVEC engine that produces 295 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs. of torque.

No chance of attracting BMW/Audi customers.

What a joke. Most BMW and Audi guys are going to look for that certain 'image'. The Evo does not offer anything that's going to make the BMW/Audi guys want it. Most females could give a hoot about power. They'll go with the regular lancer instead. The Evo is too raw for most of them.

Usually when you try and copy a design trait of the competitor, you try and do a better job of it. Like the double trunk line of the 5 and 7 series. The RL came out with it in 2005 only it looked better. Same wit the new ES350 trunk and over all profile of thre LS460 compared to the 7. The problem with this EVO is they took that Audi signature grill and made it worse. I'm not a huge fan of it on the Audi, but it doesn't bother me much and wouldn't be a deal breaker. I simply hate they way it looks on this EVO though

I don't think Mitsu is being unreasonable here. You would be surprised how many 3 series owners also own EVO as a weekend toy. What Mitsu wants is to put them in EVO as a daily driver. Also a lot of ex EVO owners moved to 3 series models. Mitsu wants to take them back by giving them EVO that still performs as EVO but yet you could live with it on day by day basis.
Also I remember few years back that in some European markets, I think Scandinavian, Evo VII sold as much as 330i at a time. For both cars sale numbers were low, less than a seven or eight hundred but still Evo sold as many as BMW sold their top of the line gasoline model.
