Stop a Lexus owner on the street some day and ask them if they have ever checked their oil with the dipstick.....(rumor has it in the new LS you can do it without)....
I agree with you Doug. A Lexus owner won't miss it, most are simply not enthusiasts. BMW has a much higher enthusiast ratio, thus they would want a dipstick.
To me, its just trying to delay the inevitable. Computers doing everything in the car.
Just to add another point of data, the 03-06 MB E-class did not have a dipstick. The user would have to check the on board computer. The newer 07-08 E-class brought BACK the dipstick. Go figure.
My point exactly. That dipstick was brought back for a reason. Computers are not the answer to everything.
