How do dealers calculate tax on out of state buyers?

The difference is that it's legal. It's fine to keep registration out of state if you're just going to school. Read what I said: residing and employed. Also, there's a caveat to that rule, which a friend ran into when he went to law at UCLA - if you take in-state tuition (by declaring residency), then you have to register there. So there are exceptions to all this.

Again, just like I said - of course you can get away with it. I'm sure most people will get away with it. I've never gotten a speeding ticket in NV either. That doesn't mean failing to register, or speeding, is not illegal.
