Turbos are the only way to go to get the power without the emissions issues - plus they tend to weigh less than a much larger displacement engine.

I love the crap here about how unreliable BMW products are - Och and UDel you have outdone yourselves (real world reliability does not apply here on CL apparently)

Yes, just like the Lexus products right Mike? Don't tell me people don't buy Lexus products for the "image"........
Doug, has there been any info released about expected mileage increase with this twin turbo V8? I have a feeling bimmer is doing it more for that reason than power reasons.

No, I know Lexus is bought for image, we all know that. What I am saying is, lets not fool people into thinking every BMW is tracked or raced.

BTW, everyone here doesn't hate the X6. Everyone on Every Car INTERNET forum outside maybe 7 people, hate the X6.

I so want one - but I need to wait a year or so for the hype to die down so I can get a deal

Autoweek says the X6 with the new 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 will have a claimed combined fuel economy of 22mpg in the X6 xDrive 50i. The xDrive 50i weighs in at an estimated 4,600lb.

I believe the 4.8L V8 X5 has a combined fuel economy of 16 and weighs in at 5,335lb.

So it seems to be a bit more efficient (just as you suspected).

(Alas, it seems that the xDrive 50i will go for about $80K when properly loaded up).

Thanks Doug. Assuming the new 7 comes in close to that 4,600 lb weight, it sounds like it would have the same mileage as a 600h.
