Default BMW - Innovation continues, new Bi-Turbo V8 Engine: N64

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. (it must be noted though that GM beat BMW to the punch with their innovative new 4.5L diesel which uses a similar design)

What models is this going to go into, or likely to go into?

Has any other engine had the intake and exhaust manifolds flipped like that?
That's a pretty smart idea for packaging the turbos into a smaller area.

Gengar:
The rumored cars to receive this engine is the 7 series and the X6 I believe.

Yeah I noticed that too, very interesting. I'm not sure if anyone else does this.

It will replace current 4.8 V8 in X5, 7, 5, 6 and will be introduced in the X6 5.0is.

BMW is way ahead of their competitors in force induction technology.

Yes they have made great strides with forced induction, but their engines aren't making significantly more power than the competition either.. Lexus for example has a 306HP V6 and 380hp V8, both of which are N/A. BMW's turbo charged engines equal those from Lexus and others that are naturally aspirated, so it's just a different way to get the same numbers. I do applaud their efforts with the awesome TT 3.0L I6 and this engine which also looks wonderful. That said, I'd prefer to own a naturally aspirated engine over time considering maintenance, so I would be more turned off by this than a conventional engine that made the 400HP and 450lb-ft of torque that this one does. Great work though

Direct injection, forced induction, modified intake valves, etc...everyone is looking for bigger power with less gas, so it's awesome all the way around

considering they put v6 turbo in 335i, and v8 for m3, v10 for m5.
V8 turbo should be for all top of line 7, 5, 6, or X5, x6?

No word on power output expectations?

If this is going into the non-M 5 series+ models then either the Ms must be getting a power boost or else these will come in under 500hp.

I'm going to guess 435-460hp is what these will be rated at with emphasis on an extremely flat torque curve, non existent turbo lag, and great fuel economy for a powerful V8... much like the current TT 3.0 I6 is in the 335i.

I read somewhere that it will be making 400hps/450tq.

The new V8 engine with Twin Turbo technology and direct gasoline injection, is likewise making its world debut in the BMW X6. Displacing 4.4 liters, this eight-cylinder with maximum engine output of 400 hp and peak torque of 450 lb-ft available over an unusually large range of engine speed from 1,800-4,500 rpm, is the most powerful engine ever seen in a BMW X Model.

The new eight-cylinder is indeed truly impressive not only through its outstanding thrust and pulling force, but also through its compact dimensions. For this is the first eight-cylinder gasoline engine in the world to feature its turbocharger in the V-section between the two rows of cylinders.
This will be replacing the V8 in the *50i models.
