Default honda accord 90,000 mile service. feedback plz?

i know i can probably create a login on a honda forum, but, part of me feels it's almost wasteful to do all that simply to ask on question, knowing i probably won't use it again. i just was curious what anyone had to say about getting a honda accord 90000 mile service. my mom has a 2002 accord, in the houston area. the dealer is wanting around $700 for the service, which consists of:

90,000 Mile Service
Lube, Oil and Filter Service as before Plus:
Balance four tires
Replace air filter *
Perform carbon cleaning service
Power flush automatic transmission
Adjust valves and replace valve cover gasket
Replace AC room filter **
Replace spark plugs
Flush and bleed brake system
Replace timing belt
Replace engine drive belts
Replace water pump ***
Flush cooling system ***
Replace front engine seals ***

the main things seem to be timing belt and water pump. personally, when i had my honda, i just got those two done, and paid about $400 for it. was wondering if i should maybe steer my mom to do the same thing? have her try an 3rd party place? what do ya think?

follow Honda recommended service. I believe timing belt is not needed until 105K mile for 2002.

timing belt and water pump job will run close to $700 from the dealer. Parts alone from the dealer are close to $400.

Remember, TB is not just the belt. There are tensioner and rollers too and these parts are also expensive. If you can get a complete TB and WP jobs for $400, I would say it's a good deal.

Is this for the 4cyl or the 6cyl accord?

seems like a good deal, I would do it, check the dealer website to see if they have a 10% off coupon when you get a major service

I would look around the area for Honda certified mechanics and see how much cheaper they are. Several of those things on the list you could do in an afternoon on your driveway for free

Age wears out timing belts too, not just mileage. Best thing to do, if you don't have the mileage, is replace it every 5-6 years or the mileage interval, whatever comes first.
And I agree with the idea of replacing the water pump at the same time too....it saves labor, and you don't have to open up the front end of the engine twice to do two different jobs.....which can be quite labor-intensive with the transverse-mounted engines almost all Hondas have.

That's not a terrible price. Just inquire about the tensioner and pulley.

I've owned 8 Hondas in my life and have had a fair share of timing belts replaced.

It seems like they will be doing quite a lot of work for $700. Does that price include all of the parts?? If you could find a reputable independent Honda technician, you might be able to get it done for less. Word of mouth is usually the best way to find a good mechanic IMO.
