Default 2008 Toyota Sequoia ..what was Toyota thinking???

I am looking into getting a new 2008 Toyota Sequoia.

The Limited model has 8 passenger seating, but not a power passengers seat. (and missing lotsa of the features in my 2007 Escalade).

So I decided, I wanted the top of the line "Platinum Edition Sequioa" ...but it only comes with a 7 passenger seating.

I told the salesman that I wanted a 8 passenger "Platnium" model ....however, Toyota does not offer that as an option.

I even talked to the sales manager ..... I'll buy one today if you can sepcial order me a Platinum with 8 passenger seating.....Toyota does not do custom packages.

Toyota hasn't ever done custom ordering...but I agree with you it's a dumb situation.

More than likely the difference between the 7 and 8 seaters is the front seat. The 8 seat is probably a split bench where the left section is power and the right isn't, and the 7 seat version probably has dual buckets and a console.

If he got a Platinum and put the 8-passenger seats in, he'd probably be right back where he started, with just one power seat. May as well just stick to the Limited.

That said, I'd get the Platinum. NOBODY sits in the middle front seat of any vehicle I own. EVER.

Edit: I see that I'm wrong, and the difference is in the second row. Limited has a 40/20/40 split bench, Platinum has buckets and a center console. Guess swapping the seats would work in theory.

I believe this is the same story with the Toyota Sienna, the Limited and XLE models are not offered in 8 passenger models but rather only 7 not sure why.

Captains chairs are usually preferred compared to bench style seats in a trim as "luxurious" as the Limited or XLE.

Reminds me of people around here that insist on driving HD diesel trucks to work with no one in it and never towing anything.

as far as comfort goes..

its' captain's chairs all the way. not a big fan of bench seats..

i mean if you've got certain needs for two rows of bench seats...

many kids, or....many late night activities, or...i dunno...

but it doesn't seem strange to me that the high-end models don't offer bench seating.

Toyota should offer the option of 2nd row bench or captain's chairs. Sure captain's chairs are more comfy, but a bench seat can be more useful, if you've got a dog for example.

He doesn't need 6 kids to want this option. While I'd love to have captain's chairs in my second row, I wouldn't do it. Just too often I need the extra space for an extra kid that is going somewhere (or should I say my WIFE needs the extra space). As a matter of fact, even today there are 6 munchkins (sp) at my house ..... crap I better get home and help out...

The captain's chair option is better for 'empty nesters' in my opinion who may go out or on trips with other couples and don't need the rug rats bench.
