An M5 isn't a bad car for a daily driver, throw some Blizzaks on it and you'll be able to make it through almost anything. It's a 5 passenger sedan, it's supposed to be a daily driver
I've always thought that this gen 5-Series is incredibly ugly, but the M5 is still a beast. Hopefully they can recapture the elegant but aggressive look of the E39 in the next gen

TX,
I am in the same boat as you (almost). I just bought my wife a 335i and noticed a few M5s in the lot. I inquired into it and noticed it is within my range. But, I have a few impediments:
1. Wife.
2. The lease on my G35 is 10 months away.
3. Wife.
4. The E63.
5. Wife.
My question is, since looking at the M5 and the E, how do they compare? I am leaning toward the E63 because it seems to have more luxury and is a little more understated. I should test drive the E, but my wife says no because she knows I will pay off the G and get the E on the spot.
I got used to, and actually like, the iDrive. I've heard the MB system is not that intuitive. As far as the styling, I like both. The performance is equal but I love the sound of a V8. The only thing is that the screen on the MB is near the shifter while it is high on the dash in the BMW, which makes it a lot easier to use because you don't have to take your eyes too much off the road with the BMW. And, MB is offering very good deals right now.

I have a friend that leased one a few years back and liked it enough to buy a new one when the lease was up. Not for everybody but if you like the high-revving screamer no other car offers the experience. I do agree with the post above that it almost makes no sense to buy one new.

Hard to compare the M5 and the E63. Both are fantastic cars but provide different driving experiences. I test drove both and was blown away by each. But since I wanted the car to be my daily driver, I chose the E63. It's a bit more civilized when you don't push the car.

Well beauty is VERY subjective...
Both cars are good looking and purpose-built. Both look even better with subtle mods, i.e. shoes, lip, spoiler.
I will say this... from a build/reliability standpoint, from what I've read and hear... the nod goes to BMW.

the hamann 21" wheels look best on the E60 M5's imo.... i've been gaining interest in them as well. All of the wheels in this thread dont belong on the M5 either. Not even those ugly Hartge wheels.
