So, everyone knows, gas prices vary depending on seasonal changes and oil barrel prices. And someone always has to complain about it.

But does it really affect you? Do you change your driving habits depending on the price of gas?

Do you drive less? Carpool? Take public transportation? Buy cheaper gas? Think of changing (or actually change) your car to something more gas efficient?

For myself, if gas goes up, I see that I use my motorcycle more often, but really not that significantly more.

In all honesty, I drive around SoCal with no changes. It doesn't affect my driving habits.

If I need (or want) to go somewhere, I go; no matter what the price of gas is.

I might be less likely to go out randomly, or my friends and I might try a little harder to take one car as opposed to two ... i also pay a little more attention to that pesky instantanious fuel economy guage

but overall, nothing really changes

Compared to 5+ years ago, we do go to less distant places on average for dinner during the weekends, not primarily to save money, but just so they don't make too much more $$ from us . . .

I still remember when gas cost half as much as it is now, we go out for dinner Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, to whereever we want regardless of distance. Now we only go once or twice max. during the weekend, & one of the places would be just nearby . . .

+1 I used to just drive around on the weekends for fun, but now I map out where I'm going to be before I leave the house.

I also remember when my mom was complaining about gas being over a buck. Oh the good ole days

nothing has changed for me. i just keep driving farther and faster lmaooo. but like i really go out most of the time my car sit in the garage. i only drive to school and my donut shop.

Same for me as of now, car's in the shop so I've used $0 on fuel for the pass 3 weeks on my car... but will start using it again as it comes out of the shop very soon... Why isn't there a voting choice for me for driving A LOT more? hehehehe

just depends on how much money one makes...those who make a lot of money don't care because it doesn't affect them; individuals that are fighting to make ends meet is where you'll see the biggest difference in driving habits.

common sense really.

for me personally, I commute 50 miles a day and hate getting a huge monthly gas bill so I bought a used Honda Insight to commute with (averaged 72.1 MPG over the 12000 miles I've had it).

i try to not go anywhere i dont' have to. no extra short trips anywhere, etc.

Moderate. Lucky for me I am at a place where I can walk to class or work. Or I take my bike. While my car is pretty fuel efficient, sitting in the traffic here is murder. Recently, its been more than just gas prices, its the reality that not only is alot of gasoline wasted, but also that 30 years from now it might not be there to buy. And there will also be the need of oil for machines, plastics, etc.


My parents have always had sporty cars, but nothing less than 17 mpg city. However, my dad has certainly changed since they got the RX400h and now he is very eager to get another hybrid, sporty or not.
