Is this Z worth it?
I'm in the market for a 350Z and I found this.. I just started searching so I'm still fairly new to the prices.. Thats the cheapest and cleanest 04 I've seen thats not a salvage.

Only downside is the extremely high mileage.. but I'm not the type of guy who cares about putting miles on a car.. I drive a lot and this would be daily driven. Only thing I'm worried about is what could have been done in all those 177K miles..
So what do you guys think?

It's less wear on everything else, but not on the engine. It might be even worse on the engine for all you know. If the owner has been driving on the highway most of the time, at steady low RPM, the engine defenately has some heavy carbon build up. Also, if the car was driven so much, chances are the owner didn't change oil every 3K, and probably used cheaper grade gasoline to save a few bucks.

1.350Z convertibles are ugly
2. They show how awful the interior is with the top down
3. The top is awful
4. With 177k miles, the top better have gotten replaced
5. That is just too many miles for that price.
Unless it was owned by an old lady, the car was probably driven HARD for 177k miles.

constant speed on an engine is one of the lowest stress situations they can be in, its the changing speed on an engine that is causing more wear. Cars should be rated in hours of operation like most other things like contruction equipment, jet engines, airplane engines. Mileage alone doesnt really tell you anything

Stop assuming guys as too what type of mileage city/hwy...
177k mi on a 04 Z? cant believe your actually considering this... If you want a daily driver, get a LS in that price range.

I recently bought a 2003 350Z.
Way too many miles on it. The engines are bulletproof NA, but the 03/04 trannies need to be upgraded to the 009 Part Number Transmission because it has better synchronizers. Nissan will replace it for free, they even did mine 5,000 miles out of warranty, at 177k miles forget that. They will laugh at you.
Not a fan of the roadster's looks, I would recommend a coupe, but thats your decision, the coupe is lighter and you can race it on the track without a rollbar.
Ask any questions you want, I can help you, I learned tons about these cars.
Here are the most common problems with 350Zs.
Avoid 2005 Anniversay Edition manul cars and 2006 all that have the "RevUp" engine (adds exhaust timing for extra 13 hp but loses some torque, also heavier cars by 200 lbs) problem is the engine is defective many burn an excessive amount of oil. Only buy if Nissan has already replaced the engine with the V2 RevUp. Many of these in the market are Nissan Buy Backs (lemons) which sell for cheap, most are sold out of a Internet dealer in Texas. Stick to 2003-2004-2005 non-rev up, or the 2007+ HR model engines.
The earlier 2003/2004 models have the sportier suspension, ie its harsh for daily driving, soften after those years, decide if you want smooth or sport before shopping
The early cars used to have tire feathing issues, but I found just switching off the OEM tires fixed that, there are also different alignment specs you can use if its a problem.
Power window motors seems to go out every 50,000 miles.
The power window guides leave greasy streaks on the windows sometimes
The airbag light mysteriously goes on, its just a simple reset using the key.
For mods, the cold air intakes are a waste of money, the stock intake with a K&N is the best.
If you go dual exhaust, you will trade your low end torque (and its a torquey car!) for top end
Plenum spacer is the best bang for the buck (10hp $200).
All other mods, headers, chip, etc are pretty much a waste of money, better to get a forced induction kit, single or dual turbos or supercharger. The Superchargers are all that is allowed in California to be smog legal but top out at 400hp.
Overall its a great little car, lots of power and torque, stock engine note is superb, handling grip is awesome, steering is heavy, traction control works very well (and can be turned off) mechanically very reliable. Cons are fit and finish is no Lexus (which I came from), little tiny things irritate me, the interior is OK if you get the Touring models, but some pieces just have a little flex to them I don't like, its a heavy car. The six speed is notchy, especially when cold, the early nav system is not touch screen so its kind of a pain, and the BOSE sound system is terrible compared to just a Lexus Premium stereo, not even counting a Nakamichi or Mark Levinson which would blow it away.
