Whoa Infiniti M45x has a $1300 gas guzzler tax?
The thing gets 14 MPG city and 20 MPG Hwy. Infiniti has never split 35/45 sales so we don't know how it sells.

You think that's bad, the E39 540i had the tax (think it was $1500) with the manual trans, but not with the auto. And it's not AWD. I imagine the 550i is the same way, but haven't paid attention.

I don't think it's been announced, but I bet it will.
Guzzler tax on the 535i and 535xi is $1300.

i doubt the is-f will get the tax. iirc it gets really good mileage; one of the side effects of having two overdrive gears and using the 8spd tranny for fuel economy as opposed to performance...

Holy crap that's horrible mileage - I had no idea it was that low on a car like that. I had to check out the Infiniti website to see for myself! Even the M35 RWD is rated at only 16mpg city.
Keep in mind these are the new revised 2008 EPA ratings which are by nature a couple of mpg lower than previously. At least they're more realistic now...

I mentioned the tax in the Christmas double-review of both the the new M45 Sport and M45X I did in December....I'm sure you read it. The tax is clearly printed on the window sticker. They have no choice.....it is a Federal law.

Yes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I understand it, the Federal Gas Guzzler tax is a set figure......$1300, not like a sales tax with so many cents out of each dollar. And it does not vary by manufacturer or vehicle....from the EPA mileage tests, a particular engine-transmission combination either qualifies for it or it doesn't.
