If I may add one more tidbit.
Have the nozzle tilted up when pumping so the gasoline flows down the sides (top?) of your fuel filler pipe, rather than cascading down into the tank like a waterfall. This minimises the creation of gasoline vapo(u)r.
Hmm.. Kinder-Morgan.. the same company whose pipe burst in the middle of a busy street, covered a Civic in oil and the rest spilled into the houses and nearby inlet?

I got this from my mom which works for the Miami-Dade Police Dept. and she received it from another officer so i thought it might be legit. I can actually see how some of these, especially #2 and #5 might provide us some benefit ...

I would like to add 2 things,
first, the reason why you fill the tank to the first click is the pump actually reads the pressure of the vapor in the tank, and when the gas fills up past the point where the filler neck comes up to, it shuts up to allow the EXPANSION of the fuel and vapors past the filler neck when in operation, and if you fill past one or two clicks, you are actually removing the amount of room that the fuel can expand, this causing it to literally spill out onto the road way as your driving down the highway because your even adding more gas in your tank then it can handle so it will release fuel and vapors accordingly in order to stop the fuel tank to build unwanted pressure and heat....
And the second thing i would like to add is that this is not a problem on most lexuses given they have leather interior, but the reaction between come clothes and the cloth on the seat can create static electricity, and as we should be familiar that gasoline itself is not very flamable, but it is the vapors that are 4 times more flamable, and what happens is that... when your going to pick up the handle, the shock from you to the handle can actually create enough spark to ignite the fumes and lighting your shirt and other gasoline things socked around the pump on fire..... So what we are taught at toyota is to touch the car first to ground yourself and release any static charge, and then pump our gas safely...
