Hey guys, one of my friends is in the market for a car. He's still a teen so insurance can't be over the top.
He has a particular car in mind, a Scion TC , but if you were looking at cars what would you also consider that is similar to the TC? He doesn't want a car that is older then 6 years. Also has to be Japanese. His price range is about $12-13k tops!

Most of those choices listed are great. I highly doubt he can get a low mile 350z within his budget let alone an is250. He has a '95 Altima right now and let's just say he is not happy with it at all so there might be some kind of problem with buying another nissan. I've reccomended the Maxima a few times but he's not crazy about them, so I would not force it on him because you can't make someone love something. I agree that the IS300 is his best bet and it would be #2 on my list after a GS400/430 (yes, I've actually seen a few 430's for around $13k). Lets see what the rest can reccomend.

How about a used Civic coupe? They are fairly similiar to the tC, available at reasonable prices, and are quite reliable if you get one that has not been ragged out by the young caps-on-backwards crowd.
Also consider the Hyundai Tiburon. The present model is much like a tC, seems well-built, has an available V6, and sells for good prices as a used car because it is not very popular. In fact, for not a whole lot more than the 13k you mention, you can get a NEW Tiburon if you settle for the 4 and the manual transmission. And it comes with a 10-year drivetrain warranty.
The IS300 is much different from the tC, has 4 doors, and would probably be fairly expensive to insure.

Yes guys, I agree, the only reason I didn't suggest the GS or IS is because I know that getting them for a cheap price most likely means high mileage and a need to do maintanance, plus high insurance is a no-no.
Civic is a good choice, but the problem is, his sister had a 94-95 Civic coupe and it gave them a whole lot of headaches and had a bad tranny so he is a little skeptic about getting a Civic again, plus isn't insurance super high on them because they're some of the most stolen cars in the US?
I'll definitely suggest the Tiburon the next time I talk to him, I totally forgot about that car.
