I know they do things a bit different in Canada, but pretty sure that is very illegal in the Nanny State to the North.

Two cars with one plate? nope.

You just tell your insurance company that the plate will be registered to two cars. You can't drive the other car with the front plate cause you won't have the insurance decals right? Here, the licence plate is registered to the person, not the car so they can go on multiple vehicles (and carry over if you trade in your old car for a new one).

It's a good way to save on money if you don't use both cars at the same time. Someone at my friend's apt has that. They have two Accords and one set of plates.

Maybe it's the fact that new cars are rediculously ugly. If I had a 10 year time frame of best looking MODERN cars, it would have to be 1995-2005.

2008 has just been With a few exceptions.

If a cop runs it and it doesn't match, it looks like a stolen plate. It's legal in BC?
What if you had two matching vehicles?!? Say two black LS430s of the same year and color? HAH, wouldnt make a difference.

vehicle reliability and longevity has increased a lot in the last 10 years, just look at the "industry average" every year by JD Powers. It creeps up every year

Agreed.....though I'd shift the time frame back a couple of years to the early-mid 90's. After 2000, styling, and, to an extent, interior build quality started going downhll fast.

lol, you know I think that is PART of the reason....new cars are just bigger, and weirder and yes, downright uglier in some cases...

Even with Lexus, I like the new designs but not head over heels over them...yet....I hope...

Agreed.

This article is only stating the obvious. The quality and reliability of cars rose tremendously from the 70's - 80's, and then the 80's - 90's, due to the efforts of Japanese car makers like Honda and Toyota (i.e. Toyota lean manufacturing), raising the bar for all others. Better quality control = longer lasting cars.

Perhaps there is an equivalent improvement from the 90's - 00's, though I'd think more so for domestic and European cars.

I bought my '94 GS300 in 2002 with the intention of keeping it three years and then getting something newer. I originally bought it because it was quiet, comfortable, and smooth. Six years later, it is still all of those and it's reliable as well. The cost of ownership is regular maintenance and fuel. It is not exactly fuel efficient with an average of 19 mpg, but comparing that with a car payment on something new makes it an easy choice to stick with the GS.
