The GT-R is AMAZING. And I was also super-impressed with that Autocar video. That guy could really drive for one thing and to talk around a HOT lap in 3 different cars isn't so easy either. Great stuff. We're so lucky to be able to view stuff like this over the internet...

The M3 showed it's still a great road car, just not a great track car.

Same is true with, say, the LS600hL. NO way in hell I'd want ANYONE but a Lexus dealer working on that.
for example on porsche there are a lot of shops out there that are specialized in that brand and sometimes they do even better jobs than dealerships and charge less. believing that dealership does a better job by default is a very inaccurate statement, and we all know some dealerships they tend to overcharge people.

maybe this would change in following years, but i think it would definitely be stupid if it's 3 yrs later and still only dealership can work on the gt-r

even if i own a 600hl today, i don't see the reason why i should go to dealerships just for normal maintenance

Well it's a new car, so first off, it's going to be under warranty for a while. It's going to take years for independent maintenance shops to develop because there will be so few GT-Rs around. In contrast, there's a load of Porsches on the road from the past several decades, and a lot of them are VERY simple compared to a GT-R.

I'm not sure I'd let an independent shop work on a new 911 except for stuff like oil changes. Fortunately, they're pretty reliable.

based on maint docs so far it appears that the amount of exclusive tooling is limited. regarding the tuning shops, they already exist. they will be the main Z/G FI tuners.

lastly that bimmerfest post is not completely accurate.

I love this new R35 GT-R. My only problem with it is the fact that, like the host of that review concluded, it does everything for you.

Launch control, automatic, AWD... that definately makes it go fast. But is it as fun as a super should be?

I'm a fan of learning a skill, not having the skill perfomed for you. If they ever release a lighter RWD, manual version of the GT-R, I would be completely sold.

PS. The GT3 is a close as a street-legal race car anyone with money can get

Cool videos. I love how the reviewer goes into a great amount of details to let the viewers know exactly what is going on. Wish every car reviewer were like him.

GT-R will sell because of its ease of use. The car you menioned is only for a small group of people, the so called car enthusiasts......
