So, I'll live with a longer stopping distance over multiple trips to the service department any day!
I am sorry for the unfortunate experience you've had with your ES, but you're making broad, sweeping generalizations due to personal bias .

There are people that have had horrible problems with Honda transmissions over the years, as well as rough idle problems.

For the most part there is no piston slap, no starter problems, and no transmission flares on Toyota's transmissions. What you describe are isolated incidents, just like isolated incidents with Honda's transmissions.

I find that Toyotas are more refined at idle and have less problems starting in winter, but that's just my opinion and nothing more.

I suggest you read up as to why the 07 Toyota Camry V6 was removed from CR's recommended list. The 6 speed auto tranny on that car and the ES 350 is horrible. To date, Toyota and Lexus still don't have a fix. Just a bunch of flash updates which have solved some issues, but not all.

I agree with you that Honda had issues with trannys about 5 years ago. I was lucky and did not have any issues. But, they did extend my warranty on them. I have not heard a peep from Lexus yet about extending any warranties.

TRD,

The main reason Consumer reports did what it did was because of the Camry transmission shared by the ES, I owned 2 ES350 with hosed up transmissions.

And oh my goodness is there ever piston slap on the ES350 WIDESPREAD, or some other defect that makes Lexus FTS tell dealer techs to tell customers that is the source of the knocking noise customers complain about.

Like I said, if the problem is widespread enough I am sure Lexus will have a recall or extend warranties. Last I checked, Lexus was replacing problematic transmissions free of charge.

There are problems Hondas have that still have seen no fix or recall. What is your point?

Like I mentioned, nobody is perfect and it's silly to expect perfection.

I agree, everyone has different experiences with their cars. I have been one that has had fantastic luck with Honda products and bad luck with Toyota products. This ES was my first Lexus and it has been a disappointment.

I am glad you love Toyota automobiles. It is still an overall great product.

Agreed. I have been very lucky with my experience with Toyota/Lexus products. I have had lots of problems and bad luck with Honda but I don't let my personal experience cloud my thoughts. Honda still makes great cars just like Toyota, regardless of some problematic experiences I've had with them.

Although Toyota isn't having much problems with starters nowadays, the 2nd gen GS had starters going out. They seem to kind of die off around 90k miles. Then again, I rather have the starter going out than the transmission dying.

My front rotors on the ES warped at 20K miles. After the dealer refused, I had to put a claim into Lexus customer service and fight them turn the rotors under warranty.

I will give them credit that instead of turning them, they replaced them.

Are you being serious with this? lol. What would you like me to change it to? Something more Pro-Honda? Or Infiniti? Or BMW? etc... I've defended pretty much any brand that I have seen get false information posted about. It's not my fault that a lot of misinterpreted information here is mostly about Honda, Acura, Nissan, Infiniti and BMW. I'll try and keep my mouth shut when it comes to non-Toyota achievements. Wouldn't want you to think I'm Anti-Toyota for congratulating another company.

But on a more serious note, since this is the second time you've suggested that I change my name, why don't you throw out some ideas. However, If you want to label me as the Honda/Acura fanboy, how about something like AcuraGT-3? Of course, thats assuming no one else here has already claimed that name.

If you are that good, you would see the last time I logged in the 4-cylider freak forum. You can have it. Dr, you are biased. There is nothing wrong with that. You are pro Honda/Acura. There is nothing wrong with that. Your name is simply false advertising on the "unbiased" end. With that said;

This is what we are going to do.

We are going to redirect this thread to either congratulating or humping Honda and knock everything else off.

I am exiting this thread, I have congratulated Honda. If I come back to break up a fight, we are closing this.

And why not? For most dealerships, if the car is still under warranty, it is easier and cheaper to simply replace the rotors than to fool around shaving them on the lathe....that's a lot more work. And, of course, turning/shaving the rotors simply takes of more metal, makes them thinner, and could shorten their useful life, although the brake pedal will be smoother and there will be less shimmy and stress on the wheel bearings, front suspension, and steering gear.

ATE and TRW Lucas have the brake feel department down - Mercedes also has great brake feel.
