Actually the ISF DOES. Do your research.

I don't know how many of you have driven SMG but it stands for Semi-Manual-Gear and it's NOT an automatic. It's a manual tranny but it has an automatic clutch.

When I drove it in the E46 M3, it wasn't as bad as some say, you just have to know how to drive it. Sport mode is awesome. Anyhow, back to the point. It was quick shifts, not as quick as the IS-F I dynoed, but still.

What I think WILL match the IS-F's shifts is the new DCT from BMW not to mention the upcoming DCT in the mistu Evo X.

The DCT = dual clutch tranny, and it's basically an auto w/ 2 active clutches. shifts are seamless and smooth, and INSANELY QUICK.

hope that clarifies some of the misconceptions.

IS-F's exhaust note - WOW it's SO meaty!!!

It actually stands for Sequenziellen Manuellen Getriebe, or Sequential Manual Gearbox when translated to English.

What kind of research have you been doing? The IS-F uses a torque converter and lacks a clutch/flywheel mechanism like the DSG and SMG systems.

it's cause they had nothing that was really negative to say about it. IMO the bleeping is irrelevant to the review.

how is beeping irrelevant?
the review is not just a technical one
its also an emotional one to provide viewers with potentiality of driving experience in an IS-F

well, strictly my opinion, i think they were just trying to make something out of nothing. Top Gear does that a lot.

There is something unspoken behind that poster. Sure when the transmission actually shifts from one gear to another it is that fast. But the shifting algorithm still gets in the way of driver's action. The driver can hit the paddle to shift but the computer may say "no, not now" -beep- then it will shift when it thinks is the best condition. And that may be seconds after the paddle is toggled. That is very misleading.

8 miliseconds, that's .008 seconds to the idiot who made that chart.

Here's an idea, type "torque converter" into wikipedia and see what comes up. Then look and see which transmission has a torque converter. I've done my research, it's your turn.
edit: actually I'll do it for you:

Automatic transmission:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_transmission

DSG: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct-Shift_Gearbox

I meant they don't shift in the same way an automated clutch transmission does. Either way, a torque converter will also sap some of the power. But yes it is very impressive for shifting as fast as it does with a torque converter.

I thought the transmission only used the tc for like 1 and 2 gears. After that the motor is directly connected to the transmission?

there's much more to a tranny than its shift time, when comparing dsg to smg. a LOT more.

suppose for instance a f430 only had 3xx hp, do you think the driving experience would be the same vs the is-f? even if the performance times were identical?
obviously not..
