GS450h AWD, 1st on the order list.

Due to my in-town driving habits, I fear that with -F model I would get 5 mpg average and thats too much even for me :-).

With fuel headed for $5.00 a gallon you'd have to be pretty loaded to
buy a V10. To me since there will be an LF-A already there really is no point
in having a GS-F. The really rich people will just buy the LF-A @150K and
not worry about $1000 a month fuel bills.

I am very skeptical that a GS-F is a good idea.

i don't agree. with people out there in the market for m5 and e63 (90k), you know there is a market. you don't see those people getting the porsche turbo or the sl65 right?

and btw, for people who can afford 90k car, seriously, gas probably won't be THAT much of a concern to them

I know a lot of people in here won't agree, but I think the LF-A is sufficient.
Many in here will say they should build this car and yet when the sales
time comes, how many people are going to actually buy it?

Even those who can afford that 90K car have been watching what
they spend. There was an article in the NYTimes a while back that even
the rich are cutting back and sales of luxury goods have been taking a hit.

February sales figures are saying that gas guzzling is out at least for the
foreseeable future. Maybe if the economy is in good shape in 2012 or if oil
is cheap again, but IMHO oil will never drop below $75 a barrel again.

What are you talking about? It's like saying there really is no point in offering ground beef in grocery stores since there is already filet mignon. They serve totally different purposes. The GS-F will be a high-performance luxury sports sedan that offers the practicality of a people and cargo mover, while the LF-A will be a true sports coupe that trades practicality for all-out performance and sex appeal. The same goes for the existence of the M5, RS6 and E63 vs. the true sports cars. I thought it's obvious enough for anyone.

Yeah, ground beef should be avoided at all costs

It's really not obvious to me why it's such a great idea. The concept of a
4 door sedan with a V10 while glamorous makes no business sense to me in
the present environment. If they build this car I predict it will not sell.

Yeah because the M5 and the E-Class AMG's do not sell.

Yeah, but Lexus is going to come in 4th to the game with escalating fuel
prices. LS sales declined 25% in Feb from the previous year... Short
term blip? I doubt it. The environment is about to get really nasty for
expensive gas guzzling vehicles.

If they add a V10 to the poorest selling car in the lineup I will be shocked
and will bump up this thread in 2012 to admit I am wrong

With the 5-series and the E-Class continuing to do extremely well, I don't think there's much worry about in the mid-sized luxury sedan segment. The GS has been selling poorly simply because it's the poorest packaged Lexus ever. Smallest-in-class in terms of interior room, trunk space AND engine bay. So yeah I think you have a good point in that it might not make much business sense for Lexus to add V-10 to the GS in its current generation (it may not be even technically possible due to the small engine bay), but the option should be there for the GS of the next-gen. There's nothing wrong with the concept itself and its viability though.

I doubt gas prices hurt the LS. Gas prices hurt poor/middle class more than people that can afford a LS. I think the newness on the LS has worn off, marketing is now non existent and no lease specials.
