Honda refits the Fit for '09
#16
On average, a Fit costs about $1.5-$2K more than a comparable Yaris which is a lot of money in this class.

The Civic is one of the best-looking cars in the world? I wouldn't go that far, but I guess it's a matter of opinion.

In Canada, the Fit is priced what the Civic used to be (and the Civic went up in price).
The Fit goes btwn $14k (DX manual) and $21k (Sport w/ paddle shift auto) The Civic goes for $16k (DX manual) to $24k (EX-L automatic).

Anyone notice how rare the Civic DX is now (priced the same as a Fit)? Previous gen Civics sold plenty of DX's but they can't be found now. In fact, out of the 3 billion 8th gen Civic's I've seen, I have yet to see one DX. Why? Could be that it doesn't even come with a RADIO or AC. Who would buy a car without any type of sound system??
A sterio and AC are standard in a base Yaris at $11K.

The new Accord has a long front overhang, the new TSX has longer overhangs, and now this Fit also has a longer front overhang.
Besides, pedestrian crash protection is more about having a higher hood.
#25
Somehow I doubt that. How are other automakers like Toyota or Mazda able to meet pedestrian crash standards without long overhangs?

Our lineup goes:
DX, DX-A, DX-G, LX, LX-SR, EX-L, Hybrid, Si. That's just the sedan.
The DX-A is the DX with A/C, rear lip spoiler and lightweight alloys (i.e. the hybrid alloys ) but Honda removes power steering. So the uninformed among us will think their neighbour bought a Civic Hybrid . The DX-G is the DX plus A/C (and power steering) and power door locks, keyless etc

Also you're incorrect about the Camry. The current Gen 6 Camry is roughly the same length as the previous Gen 5, yet it has a longer wheelbase and therefore shorter overhangs.
If competitors like Toyota can comply with pedestrian crash regulations while reducing overhangs, why can't Honda?

I disagree. While it would help to have a longer overhang for a higher hood, proper front end styling can hide or minimize the upbrupt ending of the front end.

Yes you're right. I was going by eye but I forgot about the specs. However, is the hood the same length? IOW, does the windshield base start at the same distance relative to the nose of the car on the new Camry? They can shift that and make the hood longer/shorter and make the nose appear longer/shorter right?? Or am I just talking out of my ***?
no idea. MINI just raised everything else to make the car proportional when they raised the hood lol.

I suppose. But then look at the Prius lol. The design is polar . People either like it or hate it immensely. It has a short nose that rises sharply.

Best Motoring recently did a track test on the new and old Fits, along with the Swift, Mazda2 and Yaris. The old Fit, despite its slower straight-line acceleration, BEATS the new Fit on the Tsukuba track by more than a second in lap times, making the new Fit the slowest of the bunch, yes quite a bit slower than even the Yaris. So some edge is lost unfortunately in this refresh for the Fit.

Yes just looking at the specs (longer wheelbase, similar length). Chances are, they're not gonna put all two inches in lengthening the rear (or stretching the rear axle rather) so assuming it's 1" on each end, yeah it'll have a shorter overhang.
