Honda refits the Fit for '09
By GREG MIGLIORE
The Honda Fit, freshened with a new engine and sportier suspension, bowed this afternoon at the New York auto show.
The 2009 model is expected to go on sale this fall. The subcompact’s upgrades include a new 1.5-liter VTEC four-cylinder engine. It’s mated to a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.
Honda is promising more details closer to the Fit’s arrival in showrooms, but hinted in a statement that the suspension has been bolstered for better steering and rigidity. The car has 15-inch wheels standard, with 16-inchers on the Sport package.
Other features include steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, a navigation system with voice recognition and improved fold-down seats.
The redesigned Fit also adopts Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering body technology, which is already in most of its other U.S. offerings. The engineering technology makes the car's body more rigid and better able to dissipate crash forces. The new fit also duel-stage airbags and occupant sensors.

uhhh 2002-03 Honda Civic Si?
Looks like Honda's taking it a step back in their designs. I like it though. If they went with the new Accord design cue, I probably wouldn't have liked it but this 09 Fit doesn't look bad at all.

Best Motoring recently did a track test on the new and old Fits, along with the Swift, Mazda2 and Yaris. The old Fit, despite its slower straight-line acceleration, BEATS the new Fit on the Tsukuba track by more than a second in lap times, making the new Fit the slowest of the bunch, yes quite a bit slower than even the Yaris. So some edge is lost unfortunately in this refresh for the Fit.

Well atleast it looks better than that god awful Accord and Civic sedan. Will probably be more expensive than the rest of its competition again, but has some nice features.

Honda needs to be careful with the pricing of the new Fit. The current Fit is already pretty close price-wise to the Civic. If they raise the Fit's price, it will definitely eat into some Civic sales.

The Accord also looks great although I like the Civic better.
Even though the Civic is an "economy" car, it's actually my dream car to own.
