Default BMW 1-Series Review on Hold

For those of you who requested a 1-Series review (and I know there is some CL interest in this car), I plan to do one as soon as possible. They are just now starting to arrive in the DC area, but, predictably, local Bimmerphiles are scooping them up as fast as they come off the truck (no doubt with markups). Most of them arrive already pre-sold........and for obvious reasons, I won't test-drive a car already spoken for, though, of course, I can make static reviews. But BMW's, of course, aren't designed to just be looked at...they are a classic Drivers' car, and meant to be driven. As I've already had experience with the twin-turbo in-line six in the 335i, I see little reason to check out the 135i....I'm leaning towards doing a 128i. Many of the entry-level buyers, of course (the 1-series was meant to be an entry-level car) will want to keep costs down, and with premium gas pushing $4.00 a gallon, will probably want the smaller engine anyway, unless they are just looking for a small, light drag-racer. So my plans right now are to wait for an unsold 128i and check it out.

Stay tuned.

Mike, I know the 1-Series is going to be a popular sell. The deferral is not that big of a deal.

How about something in the opposite spectrum? Perhaps the new LX570?

Yea I've already seen a couple of these running around. Of the four I saw 3 of them were the 135. They didn't look bad in person a little bigger than I thought they would be.

Wish I could teleport you down here as there are so many at the BMW dealers here.

OK. I'll do the 570. It is all-new this year, and, like before, essentially a more deluxe Toyota Land Cruiser. I've already done a quick static review of the 570 at the Lexus shop (I got to see the first one that came in to that particular dealership)....back when I did the IS350 for the special Christmas review. Right off-hand, like with some other new Toyota products, I wasn't impressed with the drop in the interior materials and hardware of the new 570 compared to its predecessor...but I didn't have time to check it out thoroughly (I was busy with the IS350, of course). I'll do a full review of it now.

If you look at the mpg between the 128i and 135i theres not that much difference I've driven the 135i already and it's a pretty stout car. Feels like the 335 but smaller and a tad lighter so acceleration felt a little bit better. Kind of like comparing the m-coupe vs. m3's. But imo, the 135 is too boy toy.

Did you buy/lease a 135 or are there unsold ones in your area? Here they are just starting to arrive...and all pretty much pre-sold.
